I've experienced 2 0-byte recordings recently and have some strange messages in the log during the time both these recordings failed. I'm running the latest version of gbpvr on Windows XP with a PVR-150.

The problem seems to be related to watching Live TV earlier. I had quit watching it before the recordings started because I had to leave for a party, but I don't see an entry in the log that I quit Live TV. Whatever the case, it did self-correct but not until several recordings were missed. I've not restarted the recording services and later recordings were fine.

Here's the sequence of events.
  • I watched Live TV timeshifted for a few minutes around 6:45, an NFL game on channel 5. I stopped it and left, with several recordings pending. No entry in logs related to stopping Live TV though.
  • 7pm-8pm UFC Unleashed recording, channel 41, appears to start, and then stop at 8pm.
  • 9pm-12am UFC: Best of 2005, channel 41, appears to start, and then stops at 12 am.
  • From 6:45pm to 1am the log repeatedly echoes RecordingFactory.LoadNext24HourEvents() every 30 seconds.
  • 12:59am system notices Live TV still active and stops it for 1am recording. Curious why it didn't do this with earlier recordings.
  • 1am-3:10 am Good Will Hunting, channel 277, starts and stops appropriately
The two UFC recordings ended up with 0-byte files, where the Good Will Hunting file and all later ones were fine.

Here are linkgs to the recording service files:

If there's anymore info you need, let me know. Hopefully this helps track down a bug.

Thanks,
Tim

How many capture sources do you have? just the one?

Yes, just the one. It's setup with two sources, 1 device: 1 internal tuner channel 2-99, 1 s-video input, 2-500. I realized after setup I should have either just setup one source, or 2 sources without overlap (2-99 coax, 100-500 s-video in from STB) since it doesn't make sense to have channel overlap with only 1 device.

I was wondering this morning if that's the cause of the trouble, but I figured you'd want to know anyway since the sources are still one device so shouldn't (I don't think anyway) have had this trouble.

It supposed to cope with that situation, but I'm sure its somehow the cause.

Same thing just happened to me. I have 2 sources on my PVR-150. The Coax in takes care of my Antenna (channels 2-14). The svideo takes care of my satellite (channels 101-238). I tested it both ways. While watching live tv on either source a scheduled recording on the other source fails. The tuner changes channels fine in both cases but there is a 0k recording when it's done.

Kyle,

Your situation is a little bit different in that you have no channel overlap. In your case gb-pvr should recognize that the tuner is in use with Live TV and cancel it when it's time for the scheduled recording, since one capture card can't make two recordings. That's how it works for me and how sub documents the behavior. Make sure you have both sources identified to use the same capture device, and if that's the case and this error occurs, I'd send sub your logs.

My case was a little different in that I setup an overlap in channels for my one device's two sources: coax 1-99, comp 1-500. This doesn't make much sense really to use this arrangement, since it means the comp capture source can satisfy all recording requests. The coax source isn't necessary for any of them, and in fact gbpvr never chose to use it either. The fact that it confused gbpvr device conflict resolution is something I thought sub would be interested in, even if the setup didn't make too much sense.

So, if you have setup your sources to have only one device and no overlap in channels, you've found a bug that's different than my situation.

I just did another test to make sure everything was correct. Again, I have 2 sources into my PVR-150. The tuner (channels 2-14) and the svideo (channels 101-238). Both sources are set up to use capture device #1 (I only have one card). I was watching LiveTV using the svideo input. The recording was scheduled from 11:00pm to 11:30pm with 2 minutes padding on each side. When the recording was supposed to start the card immediately switched to the tuner input. I didn't get kicked back out to the menu like what normally happens when watching live tv and a recording starts. GBPVR reports that it is recording the show and the folder for the mpeg gets created but there is no file. After the recording has ended the 0k file gets created.

The logs report that the file did not get created and states that it may fail:

I have attached the logs. Let me know if you need me to do any further testing.

Thanks,

Kyle
