I have a Hauppauge Nova-T installed and a Twinhan DVB-T on its way, but my mind turned to the unused 80CM dish on my wall.

Now I have seen the DiSeqC 1.2 dish motors at about £40, a new LNB about £10. So trying to stick to a budget, which would be the best DVB-S card to buy? I was looking at a Technisat SKYSTAR 1 CI, but not sure if this will work with GB-PVR.

I'm using a Twinhan DVB-S device. It works well.

I should point out there is no support for DiSEqC 1.2. There is support for DiSeqC 1.0/1.1, but only for the Twinhan cards. DiSEqC is not covered by the BDA standard, so needs a specific implementation for each and every card.

How difficult was it to set this up with the twinhan card. Does the channel guide work? Have you tried doing any recordings? Can you record to divx or is it only to mpeg? Does the record while watching another show work? How about time shifting? Also if you don't mind telling me your pc specs I would greatly appreciate it.
Sorry about all of the questions but I was going to buy one and wanted to see someone that had it working first.

Would the SkyStar 1CI be OK. In another part of the forum it is said that the SkyStar 1 - TwinHan DVB-S clone or is the 1CI different?

I have had a quick look/google, but I can't find any DiSeqC 1.0/1.1 motors, only 1.2's. Is 1.2 downwardly compatible or not?

Who sells the TwinHan DVB-S cards? Froogle didn’t help.

(Am I new to this or what?)

Yes, that was my point. You wont be able to use the motors with GB-PVR. It effectively only has simple diseqc switch support for between multiple LNBs.

Quote:How difficult was it to set this up with the twinhan card.
Pretty easy.

Quote:Does the channel guide work?
You can either use the DVB EPG or if that doesnt work well for you then you can still use XMLTV.

Quote:Have you tried doing any recordings?
Yes, this was the card I used when I developed GB-PVR's support for DVB.

Quote:Can you record to divx or is it only to mpeg?
It'll record MPEG video either .mpg or .dvr-ms file, but you can configure GB-PVR's post processing to auto convert to divx/xvid if you want. This can either happen straight after the recording, or over night.

Quote:Does the record while watching another show work?
GB-PVR only lets you record/watch one show at a time per capture device.

Quote:How about time shifting?
Yes timeshifting also works. Depending on the mux you choose though it can take a between 3 - 5 seconds to change channels in timeshift mode.

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. One more question though. Do you have any documentation on how you got the card setup to work with GBPVR? If so could you post a copy of it or email it to me?

No, I dont have any specific documentation on this. There is nothing particularly complex though, just pick the right card type, and set the LNB settings to match your LNB, then setup the EPG.

What satelites did you use to test with?
