I find that comskip does not work that good that I would trust in it.
I think it would be cool to set beginning and end of commecial breaks manually (eg. by pressing "go" button on hauppauge remote).

should be easy to do...?

Would it be possible to send me the .csv file of one of the recordings delivering "not so good" results and a file indicating where the cutpoints should be so I can try to improve Comskip?

Maybe you could follow the procedure described in

yeah, I will look for this file this evening. (CET)

The worst case was a show where comskip marked about 4 commercial brakes, but she show had no commercials...

But anyway. I would appreciate a manual possibility. Am I alone?

There was a discussion on making a UI front-end plugin for the commercial block editor in Comskip. The frontend would send keys to Comskip to do the actual editing. I adapted comskip to make that possible. Did not head anything afterwards.

Or do you suggest to do that during watching? Then you should ask sub.

Hi Erik,

sorry it took so long to answer.
I realized that my comskip was quite old (timestamp was somewhere 2004), so I downloaded the most recent version.

I tried it and it marked the commecials correctly. But still I am not satisfied, because It will not mark the trailers ect.. which come after the ads.
Also I have umarked pieces at the beginning and the end of the recording, because of "padding".
Those paddings AND commecials must be removed before I burn a dvd. and that is what I want...

Thanx for Your help Erik. But please explain the front end for comskip again. I did not understand what it looks like and how it would work...
What I need is an easy and quick way to edit the shows. So doing it while watching would be perfect.

SUB!!!! Pleeeeeeeaaaaaseeeee. I hope You read this and understand.

I run comskip with a more agressive setting then the default ini file.
These are the changes
cut_on_ar_change=1
This will cut more agressive on trailers etc.
Then I set
delete_show_before_or_after_current=1
to get rid of the pre and post padding.

With "front-end" I ment that it is possible to remote control the cutpoint editor function fin comskip by sending keys to it from another application.

I too would like to be able to mark commercials during playback. Comskip is great but unfortunately not perfect. Most the time I don't care too much, but if it's a video that I'd like to archive permanently and therefore want to cut out the commercials permanently, being precise is more important. Trouble is, I don't do this too much because it just takes so long.

So, it'd be nice not to have the time spent watching the video the first time wasted. It'd also be nice when reviewing home video you plan on editing later.

Perhaps when the video is paused one or two of the colored buttons could be used to marking and unmarking cut points, and two of the others used for jumping forward and backwards a couple seconds at a time. This way you pause at commercial (or as close as your reflexes allow), position a bit more precisely, and then mark the point. The results could be saved to a different file than comskip's cutlist so that the two could be compared later.

Just a thought.

Another reason why manual marks would be important came to my mind:

many broadcaster do repeat up to a minute of the show after the commercials. this would mean repeated scenes...

this may be a good idea for some. It would be fairly easy to do with a batch file that is triggered by a button press on your remote. ( i know happague remotes have ini files that can be set to run a program.)

Anyway, why would this be helpful? If you are going to edit the comercials out, why would you want to set the marks inaccurately while you are watching the show? The great thing about comskip (if it works for you) is that it cuts accurately at black frames. There is no way you will get the same accuracy with a manual button.

If you still want it, narkuma, you should look into writing a batch file for it.
