So I have a Sony projector on the other side of my room, and I want to hook my videocard (an MSI 6600GT) up to it. I'm probably going to need a 25ft cable, and I'm debating between going VGA or S-Video. The cost difference between these two cables is minimal on Newegg. I use the DVI connection for my monitor, so my VGA port is free. My main concern is with signal loss. VGA is analog, which is probably going to mean greater signal loss, but on the other hand, it carries the signal over more transmission lines. S-Video is digital, but I've heard that S-video cables are more prone to having connection problems as in the cable falls out of its socket. Any input is greatly appreciated.

I'm using VGA to my ancient NEC projector (the thing weighs a ton). Haven't had any problems with it. I'd go with the VGA cable.

I don't think so. DVI is digital but not s-video.

But then, I've been wrong before... Big Grin

At work we have lots of projectors in conference rooms, all with VGA cables to plug into laptops and they're all probably more than 25' long total. I would think that VGA would work fine for you, with a decent quality cable.

But again...I've been wrong before... Smile

Go with the VGA, you will get a much better picture when it is blown up with the projector. Most projectors will also sync better on the VGA signal for the picture so you wont have border problems with the S-Video.
