I've been looking at commskip, lots of docs, and posts and see that it probably works best in post processing...

What I was hoping for is a way to have the audio set to mute or XX % during commercials while watching Live TV automatically...

I suppose if there WAS a commerical I'd like to see/hear, I could rewind and unmute the audio.

And I suppose while I'm here, I'll add a wrinkle... How about: NOT postprocessing to remove commericals with commskip, but auto-muting the commericals during playback/viewing of the recorded programs?

I might not mind keeping my recordings with commericals, as I would probably delete them after a couple of weeks anyway, and wouldn't worry too much about disk space. (And I'm not interested in uploading to torrents, etc)

If something like this already exists, or I've missed the documentation, please let me know...

If It doesn't exist, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE! I really wish for it... Big Grin

I'll vote for ANYTHING that will kill/mute/suppress/demolish/fold/spindle/mutilate commercials :-)

I guess the obvious question is, why not just skip the commercial if comskip has already identified it? Skip with the remote, or autoskip. Why mute it?

You may be right. But believe it or not, I like commercials sometimes, and my wife doesn't. (Maybe we should be in the GBPVR domestic councilling forum :-) ) So I won't be post processing my recordings to remove commericals.

So if I understand you correctly, while playing back recorded shows, there is a function on the remote to skip a commercial.. If so, great !!!

But as I said, I would like to mute a commercial during LIVE TV. 'skipping' for fast forwarding is not an option during LIVE TV, unless you're Marty McFly and have a DeLorean....

So there's my delemna.

Cheers

thats correct, if a recorded show which was analyzed by compskip is played back, and you have 'autoskip commercials' (or similar) deactivated, you can skip the commercials simply by pressing 'play' on your remote.

thats impossible as long as you won't get a 'signal' from 'somwhere' telling you that 'now' a commercial block is beginning/running/ending whatever.
the way comskip detects commercial blocks depends on many different methods/aspects in combination and would not work with live tv.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.
