It already can. Press the red remote button (control R on the keyboard) to refresh the weather.

What if I don't have a red button or a keyboard?

I should have known that, because here it is, right in the fine manual, which is readily available in the bottom of a locked filing cabinet stuck in a disused lavatory with a sign on the door saying "Beware of the Leopard". ![]() (props to Douglas Adams) Seriously, I guess that the first wish on my list should be more documentation, and better organization of the documentation that exists. And not just for the weather plugin. I am really baffled about how the xml files work, and they are integral not only to the appearance, but to the basic operation of GBPVR, as well as the plugins. I once left an extra REMARK tag in a file, and the whole shebang crashed. To try to compensate for my diminishing vision, I have been trying to modify the skins, and have run into some results that mystify me. For example, I've tried increasing the font sizes for the clock, weather "teasers", and "next recording" messages that you can show on the main menu using the VA Panel plugin, and could only get them so big before they start to overlap and get cut-off at the edges. So, I tried making the "boxes" they are displayed in larger, only to have the on-screen text get smaller! What's up with that? Thanks again to sub, and all who contribute to this project.

I even tried restarting the recording service, as well as the GBPVR app. Still showing the same "As Of" time of shortly after my last reboot!

Take a look in the gbpvr.exe.log file and see what it says. If you are using the VA panel the weather will update in the background automatically at a configurable interval, so it may be that you already have the latest weather. MSNBC doesn't update their forecasts in real time so the as-of time may not change for hours. The as-of time is the time that MSNBC gave as the update, not the time that the weather was downloaded by the plug-in.

I'm sure blader_se will sort you out with an account on the wiki to help fill in the missing bits if you send him a pm.

I have an account; I just haven't maintained the page too well. I keep meaning to build a new setup program but I never seem to find the time to.

This may or may not help you, but panels are defined in a couple of places - both in the skin where they appear (in this case the main menu skin.xml) and in the panels directory. I try to make the specified size of the panel the same in both places when I play with the skins so that the font sizes etc are accurate - thus you would state the VAPanel size three times in this case - once in the main menu skin.xml and twice in the VAPanel.xml file. As regards the smallish font sizes, my solution to that was the High Visibility skin - you might be able to use it as the base for your skin. cheers, tieke |
