Hey All!

I have possibly a lame question here:

I am now realizing that I want Free to Air services. So I started looking into an FTA receiver and found out that that can be handled by a DVB card. This is a very attractive prospect as I could remove the need for an external reciever and the USB UIRT.

Firstly am I correct in my assumption? I can use this card to replace the above and have GB control channel changing etc?

Secondly, I am in Canada. I currently have a Hauppage WinTV PVR USB2 and am very happy with Hauppage. So would like to get a Hauppage DVB if possible. Looking at their website they take about European standards but nothing about North America. So can anyone suggest a DVB that I can use in Canada and that works well with GB? I would like to splurge and get on board encode/decode functionality if I can.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Will this one do the trick?

Hauppauge Nexus-s DVB-S PCI Card with IR Remote Control

From the specs it appears to do what I want but I'm way to fresh to this stuff to know for sure....

DVB-S is for receiving Digital Satelite in europe...

i think in Canada, the thing you're looking for is ATSC tuners.

Like these.

I think they are the equivalent of our DVB services. but check up though, i dont know for sure. Theres a lot of yanks over at BYOPVR who could give you a definate answer

GB-PVR requires BDA drivers to support DVB cards. Unfortunately there are no BDA drivers available for the Hauppauge Nexus - which is sort of an old abandoned product now.

For DVB-S most people have used the Twinhan DVB-S cards, but there is also newer Hauppauge DVB-S card with BDA drivers (Nova-S Plus)

Really? They are phasing out the Nexus-S? DAMN! I just found a good price for it locally....

I'll take a peak for the Nova-S Plus.

I've been reading that the Twinhan cards use more CPU so that is a consideration on my part. I have an Athlon 2500+ running at 2.2Ghz but they suggest a 3Ghz machine.

As always thanks for the help Sub.
