Hi Sub,

What I'd like is the ability to switch video / audio decoders in the config app without restarting the recording service. After all - it should only affect the front-end, no?

I've been fiddling with the playback options these past few days to get over the infamous tearing that one gets on nVidia cards. But my recording service started recording in the middle, and I can't touch anything anymore.

The only things you can do when GBPVR is recording are things like:
  1. Go to 'Video Decoder Options'.
  2. Edit some plugin settings.
However, there are so many things in the config that should only affect teh front-end, why do we have to restart the recording service?

And I only have 2 tuners. People like reboot have 5 - that means he *MUST* take down the recording service to modify just about anything.

Thanks,
GGF

In the meantime - can I edit config.xml and change the Preferred Video Decoder?

Thanks,

I used to do this, but its just too much of hassle to keep track of exactly what the user changed in the config app. Its much easily for me just always restart of the use hit the OK button in the config app. Really, except for experimenting, I dont think the user need to change the config that often. I wont be changing this. Sorry.

OK. What about changing in the config.xml, if I really must?

Yes, that does work, but you'd need to restart whatever process you want to read the settings (GBPVR.exe).

Cool, thanks. I was resatrting GBPVR.exe anyway and that's exactly what I needed just wasn't sure if it's safe.

Sub,

If a setting, that affect the recording service, is changed then maybe you could advice the service to restart itself after it finish its recording. This way, the Config application does not have to maintain a list of what have changed and the behavior would be as expected.

Also, would it be possible for the recording service to block a requested shutdown/restart of Windows, when its being recording. This is the kind of mistake I do sometime when doing install/upgrade of applications requiring a restart of Windows...
