2 x PX-TV402U with three lineups?

Hi,

New here, moving over from BeyondTV, have 2 x PX-TV402U, USB-UIRT. My basic signal sources are my local cable provider and a digital cable box (SciAtlanta Explorer 2000).

I want to set up GBPVR to use the PX-TV402U's with a viewing/recording priority that uses normal analog cable (internal PX-TV402U tuners) first, and only uses the digital cable box if it can't get the requested channel on analog cable. So priority would be:

-first: PX-TV402U #1 tuner with analog cable lineup,
-second: PX-TV402U #2 tuner with analog cable lineup,
- third: PX-TV402U #2 SVideo input connected to digital cable box, with digital cable lineup, controlled by the USB-UIRT.

I've browsed through the docs and forums a bit, and it seems to me that setting up box #1 with one zap2it subscription with the analog lineup, and box #2 with a second zap2it subscription with the digital lineup should be straightforward, but haven't seen any description of what i describe above("splitting" a box with multiple inputs and giving each input a different lineup).

I also have the a question concerning the use of two usb devices:

- how does the system determine which is #1 and which is #2? This matters as i will be connecting different sources to the two boxes. Is there a "natural order" to the usb ports in a given computer? I have several usb root hubs in my computer: will WIN/XP always enumerate the usb ports in the same order (ex: motherboard usb ports before my firewire/usb card ports)?

Any thots appreciated,

Jim

"Splitting" is easy - you make 2 different capture sources for the same "card" or in your case for the same USB device. One uses the analog tuner and the other uses the SVideo input of the Plextor. GBPVR knows its stuff and will do the right thing, as long as you configure the correct one of the 2 plextors as the one which is split.
How WinXP enumerates devices is a good question. I hope someone else will reply to that.

Thanks for the reply GGF, I proceeded to setup three capture sources:

- Plextor1Tuner w/analog tuner lineup, no channel changer
- Plextor2Tuner w/analog tuner lineup, no channel changer
- Plextor2SVid w/digital cable lineup, USB-UIRT channel changer

Now have the following issues:

If i tune to a low cable channel (analog CATV), then GBPVR uses Plextor2Tuner (confirmed by light on Plextor and removing CATV wire) - would have preferred it to use Plextor1Tuner first, leaving the second Plextor available in case there was a recording scheduled that needed the Plextor2SVid profile. Is there a way to give GBPVR this preference? At the moment, this is a mild problem....

... One big problem is: if I tune to a digital cable channel, it selects the Plextor2SVid input (confirmed by removing SVid cable), properly uses the USB-UIRT to tune the digital cable box, but the audio continues to come from the previously tuned Plextor2Tuner channel!

...And the real killer is: when I try any kind of recording (quick, normal, manual), the app says it is recording, but neither Plextor box has it's red light on (indicating that it is capturing), and there is no video recorded.

As an observation: so far, everytime i re-boot the box, the two Plextor USB units seem to be enumerated in the same order, so it seems I can always predict which one will be #1, and #2. (crossing fingers on this one)

Looks right.

Simply put, go to the GBPVR config and change the instance numbers. Instead of capture source #1 set it to #2 and vice versa. Just remember that this behavior is not guaranteed for future versions of GBPVR AFAIK. You can switch the instance numbers only for the Tuners, or move the instance number for the SVid as well to match its tuner, but then you'll probably need to physically attach the SVid cable to the other Plextor...

This is something I have no knowledge about. I would zip the logs and post them here and then request Sub to take a look. More importantly, if you can use GraphEdit to see how the graph looks like in this situation, this is information I am sure Sub will need.

Again - logs and graph can prove what's going on... I hope Sub answers.

I am sorry, did you say Windows is consistent? That's down right blasphemous! Smile
