Hi, I'm using 0.97.7 GBPVR and I can't seem to find where the options are to adjust the image quality of live tv (ie, brightness/contrast/sharpness and color), could some1 pls point out how this is done pls, thx.
GBPVR uses Directshow (multimedia component of DirectX) for recording and playback, therefore is not directly involved with brightness/contrast/colour.
The three devices that do have brightness/contrast/colour adjustments are the TV-card, video decoder, and video card. The TV-card proc-amp settings will alter what is recorded, so it best to leave this as default (zero), however direct.ini in the GBPVR program directory does have generic proc-amp adjustments, and config.xml has some card-specific adjustments. There is a Hauppauge tweak tool if you have one of those, and ChrisTweak works well on ATI550 cards. The video decoder settings alter playback brightness/contrast/colour, but be aware that the dynamic range is fixed and limited, therefore if you say boost the brightness to fix the blacks merging, then this be countered by the whites being squashed at the top-end of the range. The video decoder adjustments can sometimes be adjusted in the GBPVR playback tab by clicking on the 'video decoder settings' button (works for Purevideo and DScaler5), but other decoders have to be adjusted by registry tweaks (Intervideo and Cyberlink) (actually the Intervideo brightness/contrast/colour cannot be adjusted at all). The video card settings occur in 2 places. The 'video' brightness/contrast/colour alter the Overlay renderer, and '3D' or 'colour' alter the VMR renderer. The same dymanic range limitation applies here. These adjustments can be found in the video driver configuration. The correct adjustments is to have all the HTPC settings as transparent as possible and only adjust brightness/contrast/colour on the display device (TV). The folowing link has an excelent article on this topic. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/printthre...ge=1&pp=30 Lack of sharpness is usually a totally different problem caused by scaling, anti-flicker, and poor deinterlacing.
