Since the 97.7 upgrade, whenever I get "routine" problems (MVP disconnects and other misc. gremlins I've learned to live with) I get two instances of DW20.EXE running. They chew up memory and have to be manually killed.

My guess is 2 because I run 2 MVP servers? Anyway I think DW20.EXE is Dr. Watson, the microsoft tool. Is this a .net 2.0 thing, or gbpvr? Anybody know how I can keep these nasty processes from getting started?

They are DrWatson allright, they start when there is a .net2 problem. I guess they prepare the reports for MS. They stop after a short time. I don't know how to uninstall them. (google)

Its probably a plugin you're using is causing things to crash, which results in Dr Watson starting.

I disabled error reporting (no desire to send microsoft information)...hopefully that will keep "Dr." Watson from kicking off!!!!

The DW20.exe pileup has not repeated since I followed the instructions on the link in my previous post.

Thank goodness I found this thread -- thanks for putting it under such a specific subject, Paperchaser (easy search)!

Anyway, same thing happened to me, except I actually had 4 (yes, four) DW20.exe instances, and my machine was crawling. I couldn't stop DW20.exe (any of them -- got a denial message), and it took like a solid 10 minutes for Task Manager to come up so I could even try.

Not quite sure what happened, because I hadn't changed anything in GBPVR since I updated to the latest version, .NET v2.0, and converted the database three evenings ago (and everything has been running great). All of sudden my MVP wasn't displaying with the proper dimensions that are set in the config.xml (and have been working fine for like a year now), so I restarded the recording service and rebooted both MVPs to make sure it wasn't an old dongle problem or something, and then my PC was instantly turned into an IBM XT.

Here's what's in the Event Viewer:

Error 5/24/2006 11:27:33pm .NET Runtime 2.0 Error Reporting None 5000 N/A

The description says:

EventType clr20r3, P1 gbpvr.exe, P2 1.0.2325.30009, P3 1b, P4 mscorlib, P5 2.0.0.0, P6 4333ab80, P7 bd0, P8 d, P9 system.argumentnullexception, P10 NIL.

Clicking more information just results in a page that says there's no additional info.

Is this anything I need to be worried about? If it's a plugin, it only started occuring tonight, and the only DLL in the Plugin folder is the Weather one. I'm just using the default GBPVR plugins other than Weather.
Chris
GBPVR system info intentionally left blank because I'm personally
insulted that you can't remember it from previous signatures.

I think I had this happening only once, the error looks the same. I can't remember if I did anything to cure it. Maybe this patch from sub had something to do with it, but I'm not sure. http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=16370&page=3

Disableing also worked for me. I put it in a different post. Sorry I should have made it more obvious. It seems to have something to do with Video Archive for me. Anyway, I have not had a lock up in a few days so I am fat and happy for the moment. Smile

I followed what Soccerdad did and it worked for me. It for me was also related to Video Archive.
