Hi all

I currently have 1 hauppauge pvr 150 with remote and was wondering if i should get a pvr 500 to replace my current card or get a second pvr 150 - but if i was to get a pvr 150 i wouldnt want a second remote - so my question is how does gbpvr work with 2x 150's ? the recording of 2 channels and live tv watching of the other ? does anyone have a setup with 2 pvr 150s with only 1 remote and how do you find it ??

cheers

gbpvr will handle that for you. You won't have to do anything special in order to get gbpvr to work with two 150's and one remote. So, you could either get another 150 and record two shows at once, or get a 500 and use that and your old 150 and hence record three shows at once. Your choice.

Rereading your post now... and to make clear: no, with 2x150 you can either record 2 shows, or record one show and watch live tv on the other card. Or record two shows and watch a previously recorded one. With 1x150 + 1x500 you could record two shows and watch a third at the same time. Or record three shows and watch a previously recorded one.

I dont see a problem with having two remotes, just keep one in a drawer as a spare, but could 2 IR receivers be used, say for better coverage for when sitting at the table?

you could buy a pvr-150MCE. it's the same as a 'normal' 150 but does not come with a remote.

Isn't there a difference regarding fm radio, too?

ah.. yep... the pvr-150 does not have a radio tuner (at least the 150 i have does not have one) in contrast to the pvr-150mce who has this feature.

In regards to the two remotes and if you can use both at the same time. NO. The hauppauge software that ir.exe can not handle more than one remote. The same thing goes for using the ir blaster that is part of the ir receiver. On the second card both are useless!

well i gotta say thanks to everyone who replied. now i guess its up to the wife to decide if she wants to be able to record 2 or 3 shows at once and get rid of the vcr...

oh just one more question - how much pressure is put on the Hard drive with recording 2 or 3 shows a once ? anyone have an issue with this ? im getting a seagate 250 gb ide drive soon with 8mb cache - will this drive be able to handle the 2 or 3 shows ?

That shouldn't be a problem. I think there is someone on here who uses 7 tuners, I know for sure at least one person uses 5 tuners in one computer.
