Just firstly wanted to say WOW, what a piece of software and thanks for taking your time to write this! I am currently a SageTV user, and while i find that program great I think yours is coming along fantastically. Something about not having the shackles of paying customers must enhance productivity - MythTV and now this [Image: biggrin.gif]

Secondly, is there a way to pass channel changes to Girder so i can perfrom canging changes on my cable box with my USB-UIRT. I understand this is low priority for you atm, but if there is anything i can do to help let me know!

Thanks
Matt

I've never really spent any time with girder, so I'm not really very familiar with it.

Certainly girder can fake keystrokes in the same way that the Hauppauge remote does. These key strokes are listed in the Hauppauge irremote.ini.

Or are you talking about information flowing the other way? If so, how am I able to talk to girder? and what information would you like passed to girder.

You can pass channel numbers (or any data infact) to girder (not too difficult- i will dig out some code for you) when, for example, a change channel event occurs then these can in turn can be passed to a a IR transmitter (or indeed anything Girder can control), which in turn can change the channel on the cable box, or whatever.

As you probably know, Girder is widely used on HTPC setups due to its automation control. In addition it supports virtually every piece of remote control gear that gets produced (through user contributed plugins) so once you have an interface with girder you have an interface with a lot of equipment. An LCD plugin has also recently been written, so if you get the info required to girder it can get to the LCD...which would be nice.

In addition, a better way of sending commands from girder to other programs is via the windows sendmessage routines. If you provide the various sendmessage values (if they exist) i will put them into a girder .gml, but in the meantime key strokes are fine.

I know this won't have priority, but i feel down the line it will become a big advantage to the program if Girder support is given some early consideration rather than bolted on as an afterthought as with many programs.

I will put together some sample code for you to do with getting messages to Girder for you to take a look at,

Matt

Hmm has any of you a copy of the last freeware copy of Girder?
I need a lot of time before knowing if I like it or not. And then I can wait until V4 comes out.
(so this is not asking illegal warez, since it was freeware and thus am I asking that version.
Thanks in advance!

Has there been any progress on sending the change channel event to Girder? I love your software but it is rather limited for me without being able to control my sat box.

Thanks,
Chris

It was only requested a couple of days. I'm not that quick, and I've got plenty of other thing my plate. That said, I should have something for the next release. Probably in about a week.

Sorry if I implied that I expected it to be implemented in the product already, I knew it wouldn't happen THAT quickly.

I simply wanted to see if it was still on the schedule (however far out) since I feel it is a valuable feature.

Thanks,
Chris

No offence taken, I meant my comments in a light hearted way. Yes, it'll definitely get implemented. I recognise Girder as an important part of the HTPC scene.

I am in the process of putting togehter a girder .gml file and was wondering if you use messages to communicate with the windows as well as hot keys? The reason i ask is that messages are alot more reliable for sending to apps than keystrokes, and normally do not have to worry about focus of the window etc. I will use keystrokes for the time being, but was just wondering....
