I haven't made the leap yet, holding out for some plugins. But, how is it?

I'm wondering if anyone has seen or noticed any performance gains using .net 2.0 and the new database.

Sorry to say, but I find it considerably slower. Going to TV guide can sit there for 30 seconds to a minute - makes me think something has crashed if I'm downstairs - if upstairs then the feverish disk activity lets me know it's not died. Deleting a recurring recording likewise. I have a full 12-ish day EPG. On the upside I see that deleting a recoding gets rid of it on the screen straight away. The database doesn't grow to huge proportions.
There is a thread on the database speed problem somewhere, so it hopefully things may improve.

My system is not nearly as stable as before. I added a second tuner about the same time so I am not sure what has screwed me up. I am going to clean the slate and reload everything when I get a chance. Hopefully that will kill some bugs.

I have the opposite experience concerning speed. After installing the database trick as mentioned above speed is very good. The database consistently stays below 2 mb now.

Stability is another thing. The recordingservice is absolutely stable just like before. The client however is not always stable. However GBPVR practically never really locks up as a simple Alt-F4 nicely closes the app. It just seems to get stuck. This happens most often when quitting any form of viewing.

Hate to say I agree. Nothing major just little hangs and locks.

I am cautious about saying this without offering specific examples and logs so that any problems might be solved. But I also thought it might have been just me.

Personally, I'm finding it about the same on both the performance and stability fronts.

There has definitely been a few teething problems moving to .net 2.0, and changing to the generic SQL layer. These were big behind the scenes changes. Performance and memory usage is about the same as old .net v1.1 builds.

If you're up to date with patches that I've posted, then these issues are pretty much resolved now.

I have been contemplating over the weekend to upgrade. I have seen patches in different threads, which were offered there for trying out. It is hard for me to judge which ones to take. As it was also very hot (at least for us here), I decided to wait until the next interim release of GBPVR.

@Sub: would it be possible to wrap the patches up in a new release?

After many many many crashes, I completely uninstalled, deleted, etc. GBPVR, .net1.1 and .net 2.0. I reinstalled .net 2.0 only and then GBPVR 97.9.

I am now very happy to say everything is working great, is much faster (at least as good as 95.? and I have not had a single crash. I added back in the contour skin and weather plugin. Then I held my breath and loaded the latest VA plugin. Everything is still running greatSmile . At this point, I only have comskip and caller ID left to reinstall.

Good work to all the developers (especially Sub) who worked out the transition bugs.
