There are more popup screens in GBPVR than there are plugins and they are a PITA to skin.

It would be nice if the core software used an xml file just to define popup windows and if the gbpvr public library provided an interface for it/them. I think this would help in our quest for a uniform look and feel.

Sub, if a group of skinners and coders created a small extension limited to popups, would you consider incorporating it into the core software?

Is there any specific popup that you are referring to so I can see what you are talking about?

Actually, I'm hoping we will end up with a generic popup.

To be honest, I'd rather not do this. I'm happy with my current approach to popups, but its not something I could easily make available to other developers. Changing my popups to something else would also be a huge amount of work, so unlikely to be something I have the time to take on any time soon.

Of course I wouldnt mind if the community developers band together to do their own common thing.

Would you consider including some part of our joint effort in the core distribution simply so that it is always available and always up to date.

What is actually running through my mind is CommonGBPVRUtilities.dll, if it is safe.

Edit: Or a subset of CommonGBPVR...

Sub,
Just to clarify why I am pestering you.

Currently AM uses CommonGBPVRUtilities.dll. This is a real PITA for me and the end user. If I don't distribute the dll, it may not be available or the user's version may be out of date. If I do distribute it, then my out-of-date version may overwrite the newer version the the end user really needs.

If the tools are distributed with the core software, these problems disappear.

Best Regards,
David

P.S. Please let me know if there is some other way to work around this situation.

If you use an installer rather than a zip file to do the installation then you won't need to worry about an older version of the dll overwriting a new one. I use NSIS.

I am very tempted, but I have read numerous complaints about using installers instead of zip files (paranoia?).

I think it is paranoia. I use NSIS installer too. (I put a sample plugin installer script on the wiki)

I also made a tutorial for packaging a skin.

I am not an expert at it, I used wizards and read a little on the forums.
