I'm curious about recent changes due to HD/Digital tv and wonder if anyone has had trouble recording certain programs/stations.
In my tests of Vista MC, occasionally, I'm not able to record a program and get the message that the content is protected and can't be recorded. Some programs on the same station record fine.
I have a friend with Direct TV and he can't record some programs with his settop dvd recorder due to the same reasons.
I know that broadcast flags are starting to become normal but how does Tivo get around this (or does it?). I've not talked to anyone who's had a problem with recording via a vcr and I'm wondering if using GBPVR will do the same. I'm not able to test my GBPVR system since it's not yet hooked up to the line I'm getting digital cable on.
Is this just the beginning of a new DRM battle?

Good question.
I thought the broadcast flag wasn't passed yet.

Oh well, they can't stop you from buying hdtv tuner's on ebay that were manufactured for other countries without the flag mandate.

That's something else I'm curious about...it's the tuner that handles the flag or the signal itself? Not sure how it works and need to read up on it more but don't want to get depressed about it.
One things for sure, someone will find away around it Smile

sounds like the old macrovision problems i used to get with my ati card...
macrovision protection is in the signal, and their tuners would use software to sense the signal and deny recordability in MMC..[which someone quickly hacked, now it seems they've given up on it and left it out last several versions] [with other softwares it didn't work, you could record anything]
so unless they build it into the hardware drivers, i doubt it will be a problem for GBPVR...they originally started the macrovision for vcr taping, and it's still in the signal..so it may just be acting upon that..

yea, that's the whole purpose of Vista, MS's way of locking down the Media on pc's....'security for media developers' only, really...nothing else really interesting...just more of the same thing, different package..more bugs...Smile
bloatware at it's best..wayyy too huge for no reason..
look how long it took for them to fix XP...

but i really hope someone gets GBPVR to work on Vista tho...lol
cuz one day we may just be stuck with it regardless...
intel macs looking better all the time...Smile
