Hey guys.. I'm looking to get a pda that I can use to stream GBPvr recorded programs via EWA's streaming function. Can someone suggest a PDA that can (a) handle the streaming (via VLC or WMP), (b) connect wirelessly via wireless b or g, © and is relatively inexpensive. I'm more than happy buying a used device. I'm hoping to find something around the $100 US range. I know that these devices have been around for a while, so I'm hoping to be able to find something a bit older but still up to the task.

Any insight on what models/makers to look at would be greatly appreciated.

Ack! Is it that no one has streamed video to their PDAs or is my price point ridiculously too low?

Do people still use pdas these days? I find it hard to believe that no one on this forum has tried this. I guess I can amend my original question to ask if anyone has been able to stream GBPvr recorded video to ANY handheld device via wireless network?

Quite honestly... My Palm pda has been in the drawer for the last few years... Smile

I have seriously considered buying one of the newer ones that has Windows mobile on it... for the sheer fact that it has WiFi and can use remote desktop for here at work. (I know it would suck to scroll so much, but for something minor it would be a LOT quicker than going to my desk/server room!) I keep bugging the HP rep that he should give me one... hasn't worked, yet. Big Grin

NPVR Rig: HP Laptop, 3rd Gen i7, 8gb DDR3, 250gb SSD (OS), Records to 6tb array on my server, Silicon Dust HDHomeRun PRIME

I can't really see the point of trying to watch a movie on a tiny screen. I just use mine for GPS and the odd time for email.

I know what you're saying, but it would be nice to be able to bring outside on the patio. I'd like to use it for streaming audio (radio stations) out there as well. I bring the laptop out there now but it's pretty bulky and doesn't have much battery time.

Have you ever tried to watch video on it (humor me please)?

Yes I have - honest. I converted a DVD with some PDA tool and it worked after a fashion - a touch jerky, but I guess watchable for a short time. Whe I used to use it for audio, I just mapped my music drive and played direct.

I ended up getting an old touch screen tablet PC from ebay and might have another play with that some time as it has a daylight screen, but a shortish battery life.

I haven't tried this with GB-PVR, but watching digitized shows on color PDAs doesn't last long. Streaming them is even shorter. The problem is battery life usually. Color (cold cathode) backlit screens are power hungry. Watching a show off a media card (CF or SD) also draws a fair amount of power. Firing up a Wi-fi card draws even more. Audio amplifier for sound even takes a fair share.

All of this off that tiny little battery in the unit. My sharp Zaurus (Linux) would last about 45 minutes watching from CF with full backlight from full charge to dead. An Ipaq 3600 with CF jacket and wi-fi card lasted only 25 minutes from full charge to dead. I can't speak for how well cared for that one was.

Thanks for the information. I was afraid that battery life would be a problem. I guess I can continue to lug my laptop outside.
