I've had a bash at designing a new website for GB-PVR. It has the same content as the current one but should look nicer. For sub's convenience, amending the download link takes the same amount of work as it does now as it is located in a single place.

Mr Slimm's Googlepages GB-PVR site

It supports skinning and will remember your skin for return visits.

It works perfectly in Firefox. (It even supports the View->Page Style menu option which most people probably don't even realise what it is there for.)

It works perfectly when loaded locally on my machine in Internet Explorer 6.
There is an odd button rollover anomaly in Internet Explorer when loading the online version. If anyone else has this and know what's causing it (it's one of those problems that just suddenly appeared without me changing anything, all I did was upload it), please let me know.

It works in Opera but scrollbars appear on the Blue theme.

I am confident that using it in IE7b3 will cause dancing martians to boogie down the screen waving flags that the entire internet now needs to be rewritten by January 2007. I haven't tested this browser. Perhaps it's time to install that free Microsoft Virtual PC goodie I downloaded.

This is a toy project as I endeavour to increase my understanding of CSS but I thought the GB-PVR community might like to see it and comment on it.

Hilariously, I nearly forgot to put the link on the post. Fortunately, I did a preview post and noticed a distinct lack of blue underlined text. Anyways, here it is again (I've also put it up top): http://mrslimm.googlepages.com/gbpvrindex.htm

Hey,

The whole thing looks great -

When looking at the download page in 1280x1024 in IE6, then copyright text appears further up the page than it should and overwrites the model name of the Plextor device. Didint test in other resolutions - It's just what I use at work.

Good work though.

Yeah, it does that in all resolutions in IE6.

With regard to the copyright text, it's supposed to stay at the bottom of the window and the text above it is supposed to scroll in a litte box of its own but in IE6 it gets drawn at the bottom of the window, the text ignores the little box and fills the whole window and the whole window scrolls.

In knocking together this little project I discovered that CSS rendering in IE6 is suicide-inducingly different to how CSS is supposed to be rendered. For instance, if you tell IE6 you want a box that is 80% the height of the window, it says "I don't care" and renders it at the height it sees fit!

We live and learn.

The site also works in Netscape 8.1 (if anybody besides me still uses Nescape). Looks great, can you make the Wiki look like that also? Big Grin

I appreciate the effort, but I've actually already been working on an updated website, which I should hopefully be posting in the near future.

My web page has no frames, the gbpvrindex.html only has content, everything you see is produced using CSS. Also the rollover buttons are pure CSS.
