Just a warning for those thinking about installing IE7 Beta3. It seems this breaks a few things in GB-PVR. Specifically, it sound like the IE7 is changing the permissions of the local system account such that it no longer has the permissions to start processes.

This will mean several things started by the recording service will not work in GB-PVR with IE7 Beta3 installed. Things that come to mind include:

- Comskip
- MVP Server
- UpdateEPG.bat
- ParallelProcessing.bat
- PostProcessing.bat
- Conversion processing
...and probably some other stuff I cant remember at the moment

Google turned up a couple of other apps having the same problem with IE7 Beta3, so my advice for now is not to install it on a machine with GB-PVR.

That is going to be a big problem before too long since MS has stated that ie7 is going to be pushed to everyone as a high priority windows update.

I suspect Microsoft will fix it before then. If not, I will change the GB-PVR Recording Service to run as a different user account, or dynamically adjust the account permissions at install time.

Sub, I wouldn't worry about the stable version of IE7. Microsoft promised that IE7 would be out last summer--12 months later, and we're still in Beta testing. At this rate, this will be a problem for your children to deal with...

My sources indicate it will come out when Vista is released later this year......

Ahhh.....this explains why I was getting the start errors on the MVP service on my test machine but not my production machine.....I recall you had put in a catch for the failing start of the service so that it didn't kill the process alltogether......the only way I got it to work was to have it start under my personal account rather than the local system account.

Hi Sub,

What are the chances that GBPVR or some plugins may introduce IE7 dependencies within the next year or two? This may cause some issues because Microsoft stated that IE7 will not install on Win2k.

No, I doubt it. There is no dependencies in GB-PVR on any previous version of IE, so can see any reason there would be IE7 dependencies in the future.

I cant speak for plugin developers, they're free to do whatever they want.

I'm a beta tester and I've been using IE7 Beta X since the beginning. I've got B3 installed now, and I haven't had any errors running GBPVR at all....! Heck, I've even got GBPVR running on my network with several computer clients too.
