I'm new to GBPVR and MediaMPV so I'm still on the steep leading edge of the learning curve.

Received my MediaMVP last Tuesday and to this point I've had no major issues with getting it setup and operating using wireless.

With some pre-setup help from pz1, zehd and pub in two previous posts prior to receiveing my MPV, it wasn't too difficult getting the MediaMVP setup right out of the box. Basically the procedure I used was as zehd outlined in my post here. One note, I did have to update to the latest Hauppauge beta software to get it all to work since it contains the proper dongle.bin.

Here's a few quick pointers for anyone new to help get all this to work.

1. Stay with the default 'BLUE' skin.
2. Be very careful with plugins.
3. Take notes of what worked and what didn't work.

I'll write a full report soon with some specifics to help newbies with getting setup.

Now to my newbie question.

Why do I have two instances of GBPVR.exe running under Task Manager processes? If I 'End Process' on one instance of GBPVR.exe from Task Manager, the MVP server process quits and the MVP looses connection. If I End Process on the second one, it pops right back again. Note I also show GBPVRRecordingService.exe running in Task Manager and if I'm running GBPVR on the PC I also have GBPVRTray.exe shown as running.

Can someone please explain the interaction and specifics of what's what and what's needed to be running where for what to function.

Thanks again

You'll have one instance for each server your configured to auto start via the MVP 'number of servers to autostart' setting in the config app. If some strange reason you also manually run a MVP server from the shortcut icon, then you'll also have an instance for this.

This is normal. GB-PVR will try to make sure an instance of the MVP server is always running for each one you've configured to. If one dies for any reason, then its restarted.

This is alos normal.

Thanks sub, that clears things up.

As for the first part I 'did' have one server set to start under GBPVRTray config as well as having one set to start from the windows startup menu. That explains the two instances of GBPVR.exe that were running.

Would this have caused any issues with the MVP as far as which server to connect to if they are both running and may be shut down randomly by me?

I don't have GBPVRTray set to automatically startup on my PC and only use it to make any changes to config so... in my case, I've chosen to set the config number of MVP servers to autostart back to 0 and let the windows startup menu start a single instance of GB-PVR MediaMVP Server.

Do you see any issues with this scenario?

Thats not a good way to run it. Its much better to run a server via the auto start setting. When you run a server manually, its only good for one connection. If the MVP disconnects or gets put into standby, you'll most likely need to manually restart the server. When you run it via the auto start setting, GB-PVR takes care of this for you automatically restarting the MVP server instance each time the MVP disconnects.

I had thought at one time during all my setup and experimenting, that I'd found that closing GBPVRTray would also shut down the server which was why I had initially set up a second icon to autostart the server from the Windows startup menu.

After re-experimenting with that, I find that not to be true.

Thanks again sub. I now have my GBPVR config set to start one server for my MVP and I've eliminated the the server that started under the Windows startup menu.

Great stuff... how much did you say it cost? If all continues on the smooth track I'm currently on, my donation will be coming soon.
