Sometimes I get duplicate data within my tv guide file. For example:

Code:
<programme start="20060810213000 +1000" stop="20060810223000 +1000" channel="free.NSWReg.PrimN">
<title lang="en">Bones</title>
<sub-title lang="en"/>
<desc lang="en">Science Fiction (MA15+) [WS]</desc>
<category lang="en">Movie</category>
−
    <rating system="ABA">
<value>MA15+</value>
</rating>
</programme>
−
    <programme start="20060810213000 +1000" stop="20060810223000 +1000" channel="free.NSWReg.PrimN">
<title lang="en">Bones</title>
<sub-title lang="en"/>
<desc lang="en">Science Fiction (MA15+) [WS]</desc>
<category lang="en">Movie</category>
−
    <rating system="ABA">
<value>MA15+</value>
</rating>
</programme>

You can see that the same show is listed twice. This presents the tv guide within GBPVR with a bit of a problem: it actually draws the show twice in the same spot. The problem worsens when there is two shows apparently on at the same time on the same channel (due to bogus data) that have different names. The screen draws the data over the top of each other, leaving you with an unreadable mess. Stepping through the shows with the remote or the keyboard actually steps to itself, and you can manage to record a show that you then can't click on again, because another show's name is drawn over the top, preventing you from clicking on the cell.

I've attached an example xml file if anyone's interested in seeing this for themselves.

My wish is that the EPG Update could have some rules such as "Use first/last show in timeslot", so that even if the source data was a bit mucked up, it would try to get over it and not have shows on top of each other.

Of course, my solution at the moment will be to fix the xml file and the downloader.

Do you have "complete epg reload" enabled in the config app? That should make gbpvr use only the latest EPG data.
I'm not always right

That would be the fix I would suggest. Better to get the source of the data to stop producing crap XMLTV files.

i have the same thing lately with zap2it..
Eureka is showing in 2 spots 5 mins apart, but overlapping...
it's been this way since the show started about a month ago..
sometimes it's even different episodes! so can't tell which one to record..
or if the one i'm recording will get the right description...
tho i'm not entirely sure it's zap2it's fault, the dish box itself isnt correct lately on their built-in guide!
geez,not like it's rocket science....wish there were quality alternatives..
i think i'll just make it a manual record till they get it straight..

I think thats a different issue, and one I've got on my list of things to look at.

Interestingly, I went and got my tv guide from a different provider and the same shows were still overlapped (after perfoming a complete erase of the existing guide data, so I was only working with my "new" data).

It's not a huge issue, but the overlapping shows can sometimes get confusing if you think you're working on one thing and really you're working on something *under* it.

be good to be able to "zoom in" on the timeline for the tv guide and see a different granularity - like in 5, 10, 30, 60 minute steps rather than what it has now - so you could get a finer control or see things like the overlapping shows which might have slightly different start times.

Last night the BBC extended its news coverage by 5 minutes on both BBC1 and BBC2. This was reflected in the Freeview EPG. The result was that all the programs for the rest of the evening appeared twice, overlapped by 5 minutes. Is it possible for GBPVR to make a decision to 'overwrite' times with the latest data, rather than keep both old and new?

GBPVR is supposed to do this if you have selected the "complete EPG reload" option in the config app.

ISTR that if you have a program tagged for recording then the 'complete reload' doesn't do a complete reload. (or was that a previous version).
Whatever, I still get the overlapping items occasionally on the EPG display.
