Can anyone help.

The mpeg files created with the above utility (packaged with videoarchive) play fine via windows media player but when played through the MVP are clipped on the sides. My television allows be to play with aspect ratios but does not fix this problem. It appears that something that MVP is doing with the files is causing them to be played clipped.

Any ideas?

I have seen this with my MVP before. When it happens to me all MPGs are clipped, including recorded TV. Power cycling the MVP seems to fix it fort me.

Not sure if this is your problem here, but if you have your MVP set to 4:3 and try to play a widescreen movie, the MVP will provide a center-cut view (ie, sides off the edge of the screen).

Thanks Sub,

No even with the MVP set to 16:9 (in the config.xml file i.e. <MVP16x9Mode>true</MVP16x9Mode>) the problem still occurs.

Interestingly I found a utility called MVPrecoder through the forum. It gives me the following analysis of the file in question

F:\DVD\test>mvprecoder.exe Abyss2.mpg -o Abysstest.mpg
MVPRecoder version: 0.5
Analyzing: Abyss2.mpg
- Audio Codec: mp3
- Video Codec: mpeg12
Found from analyze: MPEG2 720x576 (aspect 3) 25.000 fps 9800.0 kbps (1225.
0 kbyte/s)
- FPS Detected: 25
- Height: 576
- Width: 720
- Aspect ratio: 1.25

Starting encoding session...
=> Processing files:
Abyss2.mpg.

I wonder if the problem is due to the Aspec ratio being 1.25. Jeff, is there any way to change the aspect ratio used by multi-episode DVD2MPG?

You might want to try gspot for this, I doubt if the ar found by mvprecoder is the display-ar. Its the FrameAspectRatio (720/576). The DisplayAspectRatio is in the mpegheader, and can be completely different.
