Not really a GBPVR 'problem' as such, so apologies if this thread is inappropriate in this forum section.

My fancy new camcorder outputs files in MP4 format. Now these files play really well on GBPVR through my MVP.

The problem is that I've got loads and loads of small clips and need to join them all together. For example I have about 200 individual clips from a recent familiy holiday. I have tried the following:

Video editors such as Ulead Video Studio which although quite usable do not allow me to save as MP4 files with the same bitrate and framesize as the original input files. I don't want to re-render the clips.

Video Joiners - I have only found one which is a 'true' MP4 joiner YAMB but it's got a few bugs and can only cope with a few files at a time.

So the big question is:

Does anyone know of an MP4 video joiner that will concatenate large numbers of MP4 clips in a reliable manner without throwing errors or wanting to alter bitrates and frame sizes.

(original Frame Size is 640 x 480)

Provided you can't find any apps to do this, I've got a script that I use to combine 2 MPEG4 files into 1 using mencoder that could probably be modified to combine more. You'd have to see if you're file are playable by mplayer first though.

The MP4 files are playable through GBPVR & MVP (thanks to MatroskaSplitter)

If the script could scale up to combine a couple of hundred files I'd be interested in giving it a try.Big Grin

I have learned recently, that MPEGs can be joined directly, with no special glue or anything. I'm not sure abut MP4 but try this....

At command prompt type:

Code:
copy File1.mp4 + File2.mp4 Output.mp4

You can go file1 + file2 + file3 + file 4 etc. Though I know that it won't work for 200 files... Output.mp4 is any filename you want....

Play the file. If it works then you can just join the files with a batch file like this...

Sad

Won't work for MP4.... creates and file but it's only 49k rather than the 10Mb I was expecting.

Nice try though - thanks.

What do we need videoredo for then?Sad
You don't get any timestamp issues or whatever?
I'm really surprised about this.

Actually this tip came from the VideoRedo site. They said, you can either copy the files together or you can use VideoRedo...

Actually something must have gone wrong. Even if he file is useless or unplayable, the file size should equal to exactly the sum of the two files.

If the commandline worked, one 5 MB file plus another 5 MB file will equal a 10 MB file...

(Again, the resulting file may not be playable. E.G. two avis joined together won't work because of the header information being incorrect. But Two MPEGs or DVD VOBs, will join just that simple...)

Edit: Sorry, but I forgot a switch: Note the /b

copy /b vob1.vob + vob2.vob + vob3.vob outputFile.mpg

I stand corrected. The copying of files do not work for all Mpegs... While VideoRedo's website is correct and will work with VOBs and other DVD format Mpegs, it doesn't seem to work for all MPegs. Certainly not with MP4 and AVIs,.. at least from my tests...
