USB Tuners

I really like the look of the gbpvr software, but am not technically savy enough to install a TV tuner card to use. So, I was wondering what is the quality like of USB tv tuners? And do they work with this software. If so, what models/brands are the best. I had heard that this one from Hauppauge is very good, but i wanted to hear from actual users of this software before dropping $150

The Hauppauge WinTv PVR USB2 card in an exellelent card in my opinion. It works quite well with GBPVR and lets me record a show without having to have the program open so it is done in the background. I haven't used it much but lately I have been becaue it seems to e the most stable out of all the all in one programs that I have tried. The hauppauge remote works with this app as well. The program is quite convinient as ell becaue it makes DVD ready recordings which menas you won't have to wait hours to put recorded video from the PVR onto DVD. Currently though there are two different models of hte pvrusb2 that are currently available. The two different models are 24xxx and 29xxx. From what I hear, the 24xxx models don't seem to work with third party software and this does seem true to me as when I updated my pvr drivrs to the latest ones from the hauppuage web site, no other software would recognize it. I hope someone else on here can clear this up.

Also, are there any other companies that make USB tuners with the built in mpeg2 decoding chip needed?

I have a pvr usb2 device that's worked well with GBpvr for well over a year. it's a 29032 version D1A3. I'm still using the original drivers that came with it. I saw no sense in trying to update something that was working just fine.

Another tv card that has hardware encoding is the Diamond Xtremetv PVR 660 by diamond multimedia. (http://www.diamondmm.com/PVR660RCUSB.php) I know a friend who has this PVR. No power cable is needed so you don't have to plug it into a wall outlet for it to work. However, I am not sure about the compatability between this card and GBPVR. The software that it comes with is quite nice. However, you have to use the coax from the tv in order to get EPG info.

Umm... I guess Im not familliar to the jargon. what do you mean by Coax and EPG?

See my sig. The Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 works great with GBPVR.
I've used both the original PVR and the newer PVR2 drivers, they both work fine.

With hte software that comes with the XtremeTv PVR 660, you can't use the composite/S-Video connections if you want to use the EPG intergrated into the program.
