Hello Smile

I've just finished off building a new media computer and have installed everything from scratch including GB-PVR v0.98.13b, but I'm having problems with certain DVB channels showing only a blank screen.

I've had to go with Windows 2000 for the moment (can't find my XP cds...), and so I'm using the overlay manager. Whenever there is additional on-screen display I don't get the television picture (I guess something to do with the overlay manager and the on-board graphics card I'm using) - this isn't normally a problem, I can live wih a couple of seconds of no picture when I change channels!

However, for some channels (BBC 1 is a good example) I can't ever get a picture when viewing live TV within GB-PVR. From what I can tell this is something to do with subtitles attempting to be overlayed and causing the blank screen issue I mention above. I can see all the channels in the config system's digital channel mapping dialogue. I've read a few threads on the forums about subtitle issues and have set BDAEnableDvbSubtitles, UseTeletextSubtitlesInLivePreview, CaptureSubtitles, InternalSRTDisplay and InternalDvbSubDisplay all to false but this doesn't seem to make any difference. Is there anything else I should be checking?

I've attached my logs - I cleared gbpvr.exe.log out and did a test: opened GB-PVR, watched BBC 1 for a couple of seconds, then turned over to CITV (a kids channel which I guess doesn't supply subtitles and works for me), turned back to BBC 1 and watched in timeshift mode (which also works without a problem).

I have another graphics card which I'll try in my machine in a few moments and I'll get my hands on an XP CD from work tomorrow, but I just wondered if there was anything I was missing or if anyone had any thoughts.

I'll happily provide any other information anyone wants - thanks in advance.

A quick update: I tried out the other graphics card I had lying around but it didn't offer any improvement - I had hoped it would sort out the blank screen overlay issues which I suspect are one of the causes of this, but it simply made no OSD appear and showed only the first few frames of the programme before freezing the picture (while sound continued). Looking at the logs this seems to be the same DVB Subtitle issue manifesting itself in a slightly different way.

I'll try any get hold of a copy of XP tomorrow to try one of the VRM overlays and see if that makes a difference, but in the mean time still if anyone has any suggestions I'll give them a shot Smile

Cheers,
Jonathon

If you install directx9, you should be able to use VMR9 on Windows 2000.

Thanks for the reply sub Smile

I do have DirectX9 - I grabbed it from windows update when I first installed the box - but having spent a while looking around online just now it seems it's possibly the hardware which isn't up to the job. Would this tally with getting the "This system does not appear to support VMR9..." alert? For now I'll swap my long-term 'borrowing' from work request to a decent graphics card to test that side of it come the morning and let you know how I get on.

This still leaves me a bit puzzled as to if/how I can stop it from attemping to get the DVB-T subtitles and filling my logs up with the messages about it. Any thoughts on that?

Thanks for your help and a great bit of software!

Its probably a case of the video card or it's drivers not meeting the requirements for VMR9.

Sorry, nothing springs to mind, other than the settings you've already mentioned above. Its hard for me to look into this and suggest things, since my version has quite a few changes in this area (for the next release).

Alright - I'll do the video card thing and see how I get on.

Many thanks for the help Smile
