video bit rate too high, not dvd compatible

Greetings, this is my first post. I did a search and did not see any that matched my issue

I am using the Sapphire theatrix tuner card with GBPVR. I want to record TV shows and movies and burn to dvd for playback later.

I am using TMPGEnc DVD author for building and burning DVD files from MPEG2


The problem I am haveing is DVD build. I get an error message stating the "video bit rate is too high, not DVD compatible, the DVD files may not play on some DVD players".


And this is true, some shows will play and some won't. Some are perfect and some are not very good.

Is there something in the GBPVR config that can be tweeked to solve it and force "complant bit rates"

BTW, power cinema is also installed on the same PC


Any suggestions?

What are your quality settings for high, medium and low. Unless you've changed the default settings, the medium quality setting should be sufficient enough for what you want. The default medium setting matches my stb pq pixel for pixel.

I believe that the highest bitrate must NOT exceed 9 megabits per second in order to be dvd compatiable. I use the 3.2thru 5.1 Mbps VBR range for important recordings, and they're always dvd compliant. For most recordings, no more than 7.6 Mbps should be needed for the max bitrate regardless of whether you've chosen CBR or VBR.

The default bitrates are compliant in GB-PVR are compliant.

What capture device are you using?

I am using ATI theater 550 pro

I did experiment with high quality record session. Looks like I should go back the the default medium quality setting.
