i have trouble getting the gb pvr server to run on the mvp

i am using a direct crossover cabel to connect my computer, and i shut my computer off everynight.

i find myself stopping and starting the media mvp server (the one that came with the box) to get the gb pvr to take over

my question is....

what can i do to make it that when i start up my computer i can just turn the media mvp on, and watch tv, without having to do anything on the computer

The thing you're probably missing is a DHCP server for allocating an IP address for the MVP. The Hauppauge MVP software includes one, GB-PVR does not. Lots of people have one of these in home internet routers, but in your crossover cable connection, this is unlikely to be something you have available.

You can most likely install some DHCP server software on your PC, but I dont do this myself, so couldnt recommend one in particular.

Try assigning a fixed IP address to your machine, such as 192.123.1.1 submask 255.255.255.0. I'm using a crossover cable connection like yours and I haven't such problem (though I DO have other problems....:p )

A good free DHCP server that I use for my MVP / GBPVR setup is TFTPD32.
You can download it here... http://tftpd32.jounin.net/
It can do more than DHCP so you disable the network services you don't need.

I use tftpd32 as a DPCH server, set up to supply Ip adress only on the interface connected with a crossover cable to the MVP. This interface has a static IP, and tftpd32 gives the MVP a IP address from a pool with the size of 1.

One thing that I think is important is that the MVP should be powered before Windoz boots, atleast in my setup starting the MVP after windows does not work.

I use tftpd32 and this is what I have in my settings

DHCP server tab:
IP pool starting address: 192.168.1.123
Size of pool: 1
WINS/DNS server 0.0.0.0
Default router: IP of my router (from ipconfig)
Mask: 255.255.255.0

In the settings I set "Use Tftpd32 only on this interface" to 192.168.1.125 (IP of the NIC connected to the MVP (I use fixed IP))

On in the settings for the NIC used by the MVP I use 192.168.1.125 as IP and mask 255.255.255.0, I have levt the DNS server blank.
Uncheck QoS packet scheduler, file and printer sharing and client for MS networks.

Also in the windows firewall have have disabled protection for the NIC used for the MVP.

The rest of the stuff on my network is in a different subnet, 192.168.7.130--150.

Hope this this helps.

Hi

I've been struggling to set up another PC using a crossover lead to the MVP, the only other connection is a dialup modem.

I have tried tftpd32 but can't get it to work, I can see that it has administered IP addresses and the MAC addresses are visible but the MVP can't find a server. If anybody can give me more ideas how to set up tftpt32 I would appreciate it.

I have got it working in a limited way by installing the Hauppauge software and then in services disabling "Hauppauge MediaMVP GUI Services" and fixing the PC IP address. Like this everything works well except when playing back a recording I get "Object reference not set to an instance of an object" when trying to skip backwards or forwards.

Hoping somebody can help with tftpt32

Sub recommends a p3 1ghz as a minimum for the server. That is with one tunercard. For every extra tunercard or mvp you need more computing power. I'd say your system is under-powered.:o

HtV

Sorry if I didn't make myself clear but I'm putting together another system that uses a PC faster than the one in my signature.

What I need help with is setting up tftpt32 as I don't wish to run a router for the MVP.

So if there are any tftpt32 wizards out there who can advise on setting for a PC linked to an MVP with a crossover cable I'd appreciate it.

Thanks
