Picture format

I started using GB-PVR recently and like it a lot. But one small feature seems to be missing. Namely GB-PVR can show picture in either 4:3 or 16:9 format. Regular TV in my region is 4:3 but when I switch to 16:9 format the program just stretches existing box picture on the screen. This is not optimal solution for viewing movies, because black bars will still remain on the screen. Wide screen TVs usually have a Zoom and Subtitle zoom options for taking most out of new wide screens. Can this be done on GB-PVR?

A more intelligent option would recognize black bars automatically and maybe after one minute of black bars would switch to zoom mode. But this is probably much more complicated than just adding another picture zooming option.

This can be a problem with analog tv, when widescreen video is transmitted in letterbox format (black bars as part of picture), causing problem for auto detection of aspect ratio using the MPEG headers. Sorry, but I wont be changing GB-PVR to analyse video frame by frame to decide if it contains black bars or not. You can always press F7 to switch to the "Remove LetterBox" aspect ratio.

Things work much better with digital TV (DVB, ATSC etc), since it correctly reports the aspect ratio of video, and its all handled automatically.
