I'm running out of hard drive space on my GBPVR system, so want to set up GBPVR to do the conversion processing for me. I've stayed away from this for a little while because of that "very experimental - you have been warned" tag on the feature.

What are the gotchas?
Are there any prerequisites? ie: if I want xvid / divx output, is there something specific I need installed prior to trying this out? I can watch these formats using the Video plugin, but I dont think that means I can encode to those formats.

Is there a way I can run some tests from the command line before enabling the feature to see if it will work?

Thanks!
Andrew

You can use the 'transcode' button in the Video Library to manually try a few of the conversions and check the results.

I was going to ask the same question - I'll try sub's suggestion, however can I ask:

- do people generally find the "conversion processing" stable? (noones lost recordings)

Is there a way to trigger GB-PVR to start transcoding all my Recordings?
(I'll have the delete original checkbox ticked)

I have mine set up to transcode to mp4 for my PSP and it's flawless (unlike a good handfull of specific apps I've also got for doing the same).
So long as you don't set it it to delete original file, you won't loose anything....

unless I'm mistaken it will only transcode new shows - you can do it manually from my videos though (just list your recording directory as one of the my videos directories)

I was after an easy way to transcode multiple recordings (I have quite a few), deleting the old files as the newly transcoded one is created as I don't have enough disk space otherwise.

Any suggestions anyone? Is there a way to make GB-PVR process/transcode the existing recordings?

No, with old recordings the only option in GB-PVR is to do them manually with the transcode button.
