It would be nice if there was a possibility to have a 1 sec cross fade between audio files (mp3's in my case) like iTunes has.

hmmm... intresting "musical wallpaper" I know of "moving wallpaper" where the TV set is turned on (MTV for instance) and nobody watches it.
But that's not why I think it would be a nice option.
I've got quite a lot of live albums, and I hate it to have a 1 or 2 sec silcence between tracks, it ruines the "live feeling" (can't think of another word) of the album.

Ok, for live-music I agree. You might want to dig into the encoders. I think lame had an option for that, no pause between songs (something like that). It has to be supported by the player as well I guess. I don't know if that worked however.
