Weird question…

Can a Hauppauge PVR150 remote cable be altered to have 2 receptor "eyes"?

I attempted it over the weekend, but the 2nd eye I spliced in doesn't work. I was able to splice in an extension and a 2nd eye. The original eye still works fine, but the one I added doesn't.

Here is the problem:
I have the DVR setup to run between 2 TVs, using a S-video switch. The TVs are in different rooms, I have a "hole" in the wall where I connect the cables to our living room TV. The other TV is on the other side of the wall in the computer room, with the DVR.

I wanted to be able to use the same remote for both TVs.

I'm thinking the best solution now would be to get another capture card w/remote and just use this other remote in the other room.. A good excuse to expand to another capture card too. But I'm assuming it would have to be a brand other than Hauppauge or the drivers might get confused.

It might be that my splice job wasn't good enough. The cable is comprised of 3 separate wires and they are very small and brittle so I couldn't twist them together or use wire nuts like I wanted to.

Any suggestions/ideas/etc?

It seems like your splice approach would work... or it could disable both receivers. =) However you cannot add another Hauppauge card and expect to use two receivers that way. Hauppauge's IR software only allows it to address one receiver.

There are other remotes you can get and probably get something to work (an ATI RF Firefly comes to mind), but why not get an MVP instead? It'll cost probably about the same but allow you to use GBPVR on both TV's at the same time, independently.

Interesting, hadn't thought of that.. seems overkill cause we'll never need to use it on both TVs are once (the sound from one TV competing with the other becomes an issue).

Thanks for the comment. I think for the around the price of a MVP, I could get another capture card w/remote. Perhaps an ATI 550 if I can catch one under $100.

Get one of those IR repeaters - I've seen them for $20. You place the sender in your other room and the transmitter in the room with your PC - any IR commands from the IR are received by the sender, sent to the transmitter via RF, the output via an IR blaster - works great!!

You could also get a UHF to IR repeater (extender). Basically you use a UHF remote that talks UHF to a unit conviently placed by your receiver, then the unit IR blasts the box. Good for controlling receivers on the other side of the house.
