I have a very simple hardware question.....one that I cannot believe isn't well covered here. It seems that quite a few ppl would want to do what I want to, which is, use a capture card (cable TV right now), gbpvr and video and audio out (with best picture quality) to a standard definition TV (either S-video or RCA. Seem simple enough, but the video out doesn't seem to be covered anywhere! ...I dunno

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

in general terms, you just need to turn the svideo output on within your video cards configuration program...

of course, how you go about that differs between which video card manufacturers card that you have. it should be covered pretty well in your video cards help files though.

I expect it is a common thing; it's exactly how my setup works. My PC's video card has two outputs, one VGA to drive the primary monitor and one S-Video which connects directly to the TV. GBPVR runs full-screen on the secondary monitor (i.e. the TV) and I can still do whatever I want on the primary monitor. Setup was all fairly straightforward, mostly adjusting video settings for the video card and Windows.

So where are you running into problems?

Ok, thanks for the reply, but I guess I just don't understand. I'm looking at the Happauge 150 to buy, but looking at it, I only see "input" connections (S-video, Cable, etc.). Do I need to buy a seperate video out card for this type of setup to work?

Thanks!

What you've noted for the PVR-150 is correct. The connections are for input only.

That would depend on the type of video card you already have in your PC. Can you tell us if your PC video card has S-Video or some other TV output? If not, yes, you'll need a video card that has some TV out capability.

Yes, you are right. The 150 card only gets the video recorded on your hard drive. You will need a video card with svideo out unless you are lucky enough to have a tv video out connection on your motherboard. Most pcs don't have this.

If you're only doing standard definition recordings, which is what the 150 produces, then most any modern video card will be sufficent.

there are devices which support both video in & out (like PVR350). the PVR350 is NOT recommended for video out, it's not really stable, many users have problems.
the normal way:
- get a PVR150 (or any other capture device) as a recording source
- get a graphics card with video out (if yours does not allready have such a output) for output on TV

Can anyone suggest a PCI TV output card that would be fully compatible?!?

Thanks again!

I'm pretty sure the PVR350 is only cable/antenna and s-video/composite input as well.

Here's hauppauge's spec page for the PVR150.
