I usually upgrade an in-place install when comes a new version of GB-PVR.
Normally, there is no issue. However, what does happen through the versions, is that they get "dirty":
- old skins are left in the "Skin" folder (not so bad)
- old sub-folders are left in the "Blue" skin folder (worse)
- old sections of obsolete/unsued plugins are left under the "<PluginSettings>"
- old/obsolete files are left in the main "gbpvr" folder

However, if I did a clean install of GB-PVR, I loose the basic settings that i did. It's not a huge task, but setting the tuners, EPG, all the Decoders/Filters, now also Favorites, and all the other little things we configure via the config-app (or better, via the "Settings" screen) are lost.

Would be nice to have a "export-settings" utility ("GB-PVR Migration Helper"?).
It would export only settings done through the built-in out-of-the-box options of the product into a file. An API can be added, to allow the plugins to export their own things, but to separate files.
Then, on a new install, one could import those settings, and this way get ris of all the rubbish that was accumulated.

Another option:
To have a button in the config-app that shows you a screen with all the sub-entries under <PluginSettings>, and you can choose which ones to remove.

Does it all make sense?

If you keep only the old config.xml and the old gbpvr.db3 in your devnz\gbpvr dir, you will keep your settings and recordings and everything else will be new. Don't forget the post/parallelprocessing.bats comskip.ini etc.
