Well I have successfully connected to GBPVR guide and can stream videos and whatnot, but can't seem to stream Live TV.

I click the stream option, then choose launch external player, but then says it cannot find the specified file.

If I try using my VLC Portable on my flash drive... It just opens up, eventually, but nothing starts playing.

Stupid question... port 443 appears to be the only port I can get anything working on from my office, due to past experiences. I have 443 set as the port for EWA to access, so I therefore can't have it as the port for VLC to stream on right? I've used 443 in the past for VLC to stream on independently, but didn't get sound.

Do you get the cannot find specified file name when you click the launch button?

When you click on the lauch button the stream processes is initialized....you should notice a slight 3-5 second delay between the time you click on the stream button and see the window with the lauch button....

When you click the launch button a file name stream.vlc is sent to your browser....this should automatically prompt the browser to ask you if you want to open the file with VLC or save the file......

If you are not seeing this prompt then I am suspecting that VLC is not configured correctly on your client machine........

You should have one port for EWA and another port for streaming.....you do not want to have two services listening on the same port......

Its unlikely port 8080 is blocked, that is the standard port for secure (https) websites. So VLC uses that by default.

The port you can configure in EWA is the one you need to be concerned with first.

edit: Try changing the transcode option, I found the default choice didn't work but the second one in the list did.

I do get asked how I want to open the stream. Whether I choose VLC portable or the WMP installed on my desktop at work, neither stream.

I think port 8080 is blocked, or atleast it doesn't work. I set it to that and nothing happens. 443 works when VLC is the only thing running on it.

I was trying to set up a SSH server but that seems to be way over my head.

You dont have to set port 8080 in EWA, its a VLC server setting, not readily visible where it is set either.

If your port 8080 is blocked you would have problems browsing certain sites that require secure logins.

I dont know if you have a port prob or a codec prob. My suggestion is to try setting the port back to 7648 and try the different transcode options in EWA. The only other thing I would check is if you use a router on the home lan, you have to forward port 7648 to the pvr box.

One other comment, I was having trouble with the VLC streamer on the pvr box until I upgraded to the latest version released in January I think.

Actually.....443 is the standard secure port for https traffic.....8080 is just an alternate for port 80 which is the standard http port....

Here is a good list.....

There is only one stream combination that I am aware of that works with windows media.....it is one of the standard selections in ewa streaming config....the one with wmv.....

I much prefer VLC and I use manual settings as set below......

Give the below settings a try.....also....I am not sure what you mean by VLC portable....but if it is a stripped down version it may not have all the necessary components.....I would use the most current desktop version from here.....I would recommend running this version on the GBPVR server as well....
