Scheduled Recording Channel Change problem

Hi all,

I noodled around with MythTV, then MediaPortal and finally arrived at GBPVR as it was the only one that I was finally able to get my MCE remote blaster to work with my Dish box. Hats off to the developers on a really nice app!Smile

Finally, I thought I had everything set up, but alas, one problem still exists: the channel does not change for a scheduled recording and I cannot figure out why.

To be clear, the blaster blinks and changes the channel on my Dish box correctly whenever I, a) enter the channel via numbers pod, 2) use the chan up/down button, or 3) the up/down arrow keys.

But for a scheduled recording the nothing happens. It just records what ever channel it was on. The same is true if I do a manual recording.

I've Googled and searched the forums but couldn't seem to find a similar problem.

Anybody got any ideas?

Welcome to the forums Smile To beat sub to it; schedule a recording and wait for it to occur. Then zip up and attach your logs, and I'm sure sub will be able to help you. Also see http://forums.nextpvr.com/showthread.php?t=16767 Wink

You might want to try HIP, it works with my rather awkward set top box that uses toggle commands. There are some excellent instructions on the gbpvr wiki pages, I can now get 100% channel changes for recordings.

Thanks for the welcome Smile

I'll attach the logs as soon as I get a chance to record.

I was hoping that I wouldn't have to use HIP since it seemed that the native support was good for my needs, although I was wanting to get more of the MCE remote buttons working, so I may end up there anyway. But before I do any of that I just wanted to make sure that my setup was functioning properly.

I love tinkering around w/ this stuff but I'm under the gun as the wife is threatening to go out and buy a Tivo if I don't get everything up and running soon!Wink

If you get channel changes working OK from the TV guide then you're 99% there, there must only be a tiny bit missing somewhere. Hopefully the logs will pin it down quickly.

martint123:

Yes, forgot to mention that case is OK too, ie., if I go into the guide and choose a channel there then it changes correctly and plays that channel.

So I'm really puzzled. If it can do all that correctly then how come it doesn't work for a scheduled recording? I mean it seems that all the components are there.

I'm attaching the logs as requested. I zipped up everything per the guide from stefan and it shows several days worth of stuff. To help narrow down the test case, the show I set to record from the guide was Star Trek. The channel I was on was VH1C.

When I viewed it today, it was definitely not Star Trek. Instead I got Rob Zombie and the Metal Zone! Big Grin Not that I mind that but it definitely did not change the channel.

I looked thru the logs but I don't really know what to look for. I hope they're helpful in some way.

Looking forward to any clues you guys can give me.

Thanks!

There are no errors lost in the log, and it actually looks like it thinks it has succeeded. I dont really have any suggestions other than trying Hip.

Actually I just installed GBPVR also with a set top box. It works great for live tv and with tvlistngs, but when a recording kicks in it does not change the channel, the IR blaster does not even seem to blink

my setup is

P4 3.0, 1GB Ram, ASUS P5GD1 Mobo, and PVR-350 + MCE BLASTER, using SPDIF out from MB

All seems to work fine so far, just recordings don't seem to change the channel

PS: Thanks for the great app.. it makes my system rock

Thanks Sub Smile

I am not sure why I would use HIP here? My Haupage remote is working fine with GBPVR (via Haupauge IR) and GBPVR is changing channels via MCE blaster (port 1) in live and within the guides (both in liveguide and tvlistings).

Now I have been reading the HIP docs and even installed it unfortunately since nothing is working now.. lol er I mean DOH Sad... I still need to read though the docs some more obviously but In the mean time I have a question

HIP is a nice application but it is used to get remotes working with apps, this is not the case here I think.. its only the recordings that are not changing the channel with MCE blaster. I would guess the scheduler/recording task doesnt need the remote to blast? Would not the problem lie somewhere with recording task?

Just curious I am actually new to Windows IR controlling, I am a linux guy usually but GBPVR converted me to WinXP Smile
