Not sure if this has been requested....

How's about various speed with FFW/REW like TiVo?
Push once = normal ffw/rew
Push again = 2X ffw/rew
Push third time = 4X ffw/rew
Push Fourth time = play

Yes, it would be nice. Unfortunately this aspect of playback is controlled by components I didn't write and I have no ability to change the behaviour.

sub, that component you are talking about, may I ask where it is coming from and do you think it would be possible for us to put this suggestion on the wishlist of it's author?

Variable-speed fwd / rew would indeed be very nice.

It would need changes in the MPEG splitter (Microsoft) and the MPEG2 decoders (Intervideo/Cyberlink/Sonic/etc).

I dont think these respective authors have wishlists  [Image: biggrin.gif]

Indeed very unlikely... [Image: laugh.gif]

Just curious -- from glancing at the logs, am I correct in assuming that you are using the .Net framework for development? And the MPEG libraries you are using are included with Visual Studio .Net?

There is no MPEG libraries for .net that I know of.

I'm using directshow, which I call from C++ native code (one of the .dlls that make up GB-PVR).

Hi all new here

Can't you do it the same way that VLC Videolan Player did it or rather use a simular method?

I have used their videolan player 0.8.1 for windows on videos recorded off my pvr 250 via sagetv in mpeg2 format as well as in GBpvr 0.22.7 and it is able to play videos recorded in both and do multispeed fast forward at speeds past 1000x fast forward(it goes higher but after that it displays x1. #j) and down to x0.00 slow motion speeds while playing the recordings.

As a bonus VLC is GNU so they have the source codes and codecs that are used on their site for download.

VLC does streaming of videos as well and supports a wide range of video formats.

Maybe you could wrap their player into GBpvr and use it for playback of shows, Just a thought.

Thats exactly why I cant use it. The GNU Public Licence (GPL) would require that I make GB-PVR open source if I used anything from VLC as part of GB-PVR. Not going to happen. I'm staying well clear of anything covered by GPL that could cause me problems.

The VLC implementation replaces both the splitter and MPEG2 decoders which I mention above, so its able to over come this limitation. Unfortunately I'm not in the position to be able to write my own replacements for these components (probably hundreds of hours). Just calling the VLC player wouldn't be sufficient. I'd really need an integrated implementation so I could continue to support the PVR250/XCard/MVP etc.

Question

What if someone wrote a plugin that used the unchanged player to work with GBpvr as alternative playback device? That way it might be able to be made workable and not be a native part of your product and theirfore not require you to release any source code.

Not sure if it would work i don't know how these plugins work but if somebody could make a solitare plugin why not this?

Just another thought.
