When searcing the forums the Image Verification is required. It is very difficult to read and must be refreshed several times untill a readable image is available. Other websites Image Verification systems are not this challenging. Can GBPVR help with the eyestrain?

The option to not log in but still search is made available to the user but its very difficult. Personally I use the tool and support a dozen or so family and friends setups also. Its our collective desire to have the image more readable.

If you need help you come to the forums and first search the archives for an answer. But you can't unless your have the Hubble available. So you log in, search, log out. Wow, that was a 3 step process that served what purpose? Is it a sneaky way to track usage? Is it just poor planning? Perhaps its a cruel joke? Seems like if others can use that security fuction on their websites in a functional way then why can't GBPVR.

Fair point here, just logged out and tried a search. I'm 24 with good vision and it took a bit of effort to figure out the word.

Perhaps a sign of the times - bots designed to bring down servers etc - the (widely used) forum software is designed to stop this by using the security images. If you do login you avoid this and get features such as 'new posts', auto-notify on subscribed threads etc. And, of course, the ability to post and ask questions!

Can't you use a decent browser or it's options to log in automagically?
I haven't had to log in here since first registering.

I visit a few forums where there is no search option at all unless logged in - they had problems with unknown users bringing their forums to its knees with DOS search attacks.

you've both missed his point: he's using other peoples computers to search the forum. would you like to auto-login from other computers? imagine these people starting to post messages, multiple users with the same user name Wink

yeah, but you would think that it would be quicker to type his username and password than figure out a verification image (even if it werent difficult)...

but to answer your question, I am not sure if sub has any control over the verification images, I think you would have to take this issue up with the people at vBulliten

As tipstir says above, this is just the standard security feature of the vbulletin forum software and the exact same images are seen on thousands of websites. I know as a casual user of other forums that it can be a bit of a pain for users that arent logged in, and I'll occasionally type one wrong, but it does serve a purpose (stopping automated bots from performing searches and bringing the server to its knees). Disabling it would create more trouble than its worth.
