XP Pro. It's pretty robust, there are plenty of drivers around and, if you're just using it as a media PC (ie not a dual purpose machine) you don't gain anything form the fancy Vista features anyway.
- Silent client PVR: HDPlex HS.1 aluminium fanless case / Thin-ITX ASRock H81TM-ITX motherboard / Intel Celeron 1850T CPU / 4GB RAM / 120GB SSD / TBS6982 DBS-S2 dual-tuner card / Win10+nPVR+Plex Media Player feeding LG OLED55B6V + Anthem MRX510 AV Receiver / PMC GB1 / B&W / REL speakers.
- Noisy NAS: Xeon / Intel mobo / 16GB RAM / FreeNAS + Ubuntu VMs on VMware ESXi + 12TB RAID
running Plex Media Server

I don't see any benefit to MC. I have had it for a year and a half on one box and have only opened it once and don't see the point since GBPVR is so good. I just bought an new copy of XP home today for my new dedicated HTPC. My current HTPC used Home and it runs 24/7 without issue (unless I screw it up!)

I've just put down the MC version mainly so I can have a squiz at it and lord it over people using it how gbpvr is much better Big Grin . It's basically a worked version of XP Pro with some extra bits, I have most of them disabled anyway.

I'm trying to figure out if I prefer the MCE music player or the one I wrote...

I agree...XP Pro. OTOH, XP Home will probably work just fine (I have one of each) but you can't Remote Desktop into an XP Home box.

If you're running GB-PVR, no need for MCE...

um, as long as everything works... Win 2k Server should be fine for you. rock solid, and lightweight (well lighter than XP)

there is really no need to change OSs when everything works fine already.
