Hi, I'd like to be able to define more features of the recorded video (CBR/VBR, GOP, Output Stream) ideally all setting accessible through the WinTVCap profiles. A Hauppauge-centric wish, I guess?

In LiveTV it would be nice to be able to adjust brightness, contrast, colour... (but the first one has a much higher priority for me)

For me, VBR encoding is on the very top of my wish list. This is one of the biggest strengths of the PVR-250 or 350 card and it's a shame to not have it available in GB-PVR. Try this simple test:

Record a 2 minute clip of a show (sporting events or music videos are best for this kind fo test) using regular CBR encoding with the default bitrate of 6.0 Mbps. Now do another recording of the same show using VBR encoding with an average bitrate of 4.0 Mbps and a peak of 7.0 Mbps. Notice that the second recording looks much better with less "blockiness" even though it takes up less disk space?

I don't know if Hauppauge cards are the only ones that support VBR, but it is certainly becoming an industry standard. Almost every digital satellite TV channel and almost every DVD uses VBR encoding these days.

I'd like to second the request for VBR encoding. Even though I have now completely migrated from SnapStream Beyond TV, the one thing I *really* miss is the ability to use VBR. I'm having to record @ 6MBPS CBR instead of the 4MBPS Avg/6MBPS Max that I used under BTV, and losing about 250MB of space for each 1 hour TV show I record.

But if it can't be done it isn't the end of the world - GB-PVR still kicks the pants of Beyond TV! Wink

btw I'm using a Hauppauge WinTV PVR/USB2.
