One of the things that has always bugged me about GB-PVR is that it just kicked you out to main menu when a recording starts if you're watching live TV. I decided I'd try to write a plug in that would at least give you warning, and hopefully give you the option of either recording it, or say no don't record it. Has anyone done anything like this in a plug in? Does it seem like it's possible?

Sounds like it should work. I think you have to have it as a Video plugin, that would check what is scheduled periodically against the current time.

This would be a nice addition

One thing to keep in mind is what if the user has left the room with GBPVR running live tv? So it would be great if when no response is received in say 30 seconds it will record the scheduled recording

Yeah, that's the plan, have it check the database every so often to see if a recording is starting soon. I just started using .net a few months ago for work, but it was insisted I learn vb.net instead of C#, so I'm currently attempting to work my way into C#. I'll keep working on it...

You could just write it in VB.NET. C# isn't required for GBPVR plugins, just .NET

True, I might just do that since I'm much more comfortable with Vb.net.

Question,

Since I have no need at all for anything in the Menu, do I still need to implement IMenuTask, or can I just use IVideoPlugin?

You'd need to implement both since IMenuTask is the only way to display something.

Yes, I was starting to see that after I asked by looking at source for other plug-ins.

As a bit of an update...

I have it now...two minutes before a recording starts a window pops up with a nice warning saying a program is about to record...It disappears after 45 Seconds and records if you don't respond and moves you out to the main menu.

Todo:
Add buttons to either go ahead and record or cancel recording.

Figure out some way to tell the plug in what video mode we're in...Right now it pops up no matter what you're watching(live TV or not)...any ideas here would be appreciated...only thing I can think of is making it check to see if there's a LiveTV entry in the database.

Add something to finish watch whatever you're watching if you're time shifted...

One suggestion for your plugin.
Could you possibly check the pre-padding of upcoming shows and display your pop-up 2 minutes before the padding?
This way if you set up your pre-padding to be 10 mins, then the popup would show up 12 minutes before..
Hope you follow....
