I was able to setup and switch channels easily using the Paterson Technology "USB TV Translator" and Cheval's "DirecTV Channel Control" plugin on a DirecTV HD H20-600 receiver. [PC-serial] / [DSS H20-600 - USB interface]

The cable hardware is programmable and offers what it calls HD director. The cable handles routing channel 5 from the standard DSS programming to an off air HD channel 5 invisibly.

Setup was akward at first but the results are far superior to my USB-UIRT channel control.

Compatible with D11-100, D11-300, D11-500, D11-800, H20-100, H20-600, and D12-300 receivers

The sat box carries both the standard definition channel 5 and also allows you to tune to a simulcast off air local HD channel 5 on an alternate channel. When GBPVR issues the channel change command via the directv plugin, the cable's onboard hardware intercepts the call and routes the channel change to say 84 (your off air HD channel). You pre-configure what alternates you prefer and upload these to the cable's on board memory.

That's great news, I have been holding off even considering the H20 box till someone figured it out. Been using Cheval's Directv channel changer with a cable I made on an older SD Directv receiver. Thank's for the info!

I'm using Cheval's program right now w/ an H10 and it works GREAT. I just got an H20 so I can record locals in HD but, of course, have to make a new cable due to the USB jack instead of DB9. I've read a little about the DB9-USB cable but I'm wondering...is there some circuitry REQUIRED in the cable or is it all about merely wiring the right pins from the USB end to the DB9 end ? (ie..is it feasible to make one yourself ?) I see the link to the cable from PatersonTech that includes circuitry but it sounds like it's used more for channel mapping than anything else. Is that true or is the circuitry required just to get the 2 ports to talk ? I've made the cables for my prior 2 receivers and would do the same for the H20 but from what I've read it sounds like it could be more in-depth.
