i'm setting up a htpc for a friend with a new hvr1600 and i must say i like it! Smile
dual tuners, yes, both usable at same time, very nice picture quality...
QAM support with beta drivers, which seem pretty stable..haven't played with the qam stuff much yet tho...

and while playing with decoders, i setup the intervideo codec with vmr9 and checked the "show cc's" in config and yes! it shows closed captions! Big Grin
even on recordings...so finally a decent closed caption option...
so sub, if you need any test recordings let me know..
and is there a key to turn them off temporarily?

will let you know how it comes out with HD and QAM cc's when i get some recorded..yep, works with hd streams recorded to mpg...

edit: HD cc's are kinda jumbled, like the spaces are black squares instead of clear..so would be nice to have option to turn cc display on and off from remote..SD cc's are perfect..

also, the new driver cd has a new irremote.ini that lets you use MCE remotes and also controls MCE as well...Smile

now i can use that gbpvr plugin for MCE...[launches GBPVR from MCE,and back when gb closed]

Sounds like the closed captions that are available on the 150 as well. Once you enable it in the config, they are permanently on. A few of us use the srt viewer instead and pull the captions with mpg2srt. If you go this route, then the captions can be turned off with the yellow button.

from everything i know aabout the pvr150, it can't do cc's at all...unless there's been a change.. MS fudged a way to get them in MCE but it wasn't compatible with third party apps..

this is definitely a different chip than the 150...

i don't display them, the only reason i wanted them is the enhanced effect on comskip and commercials, makes comskip MUCH more accurate!
[most commercials dont have cc's, and if they do, the words give them away..Smile]

The PVR150 does the same thing with newer drivers. They enabled this about three months ago.

Like sub said, the 150s have been working for a bit now. The quality of the detector isn't that great. The signal has to be a very good or else it drops all sorts of characters. A few of us are still hoping that captions make the cut list one day and we get support in GBPVR. The SRT method works ok, but it loses the positional info.

Sub is there anyway this will work in GBPVR from the 150? And if so, is there anyhope that you can have them overlayed on video watched on a MVP?
3x MVPs (not used anymore)
XBMC
Hauppauge 150 via SVideo
Comcast Digital Cable
Motorola HD Cable box channel changed via Firewire
Vista Home Premium with RDP hack
AMD Athalon 64 5000+
340gig sata, plus 80SATA+3x160IDE Drives in XP machine for storage.

There are two ways:
#1 Use the cyberlink decoder and vmr9 and enable it in config. The drawback is that they are always on.

#2 Use the SRT viewer and pull the captions using mpg2srt. I have mpg2srt run in my parallelprocessing.bat after comskip.
The yellow button will toggle them on/off
I use the second, and my Mvp shows the captions as well.

This is great! Can you give me more details on srt viewer (I am searching now)? I assume that since I watch on the MVP option 1 is not valid, correct?

I don't know if the MVP is directly decoding the captions from the video stream or if it is because of the SRT viewer. My guess would have been that the MVP is directly decoding the stream. I can't test that theory right now, but I will later today.
At any rate the SRT viewer is a config option under misc if I remember correctly. You need to download mpg2srt and run it in your postprocessing.bat. (mpg2srt %1)
Get mpg2srt here:
