I've noticed something interest about the Music Library when listening to, or rather trying to listen to, some music. I have my music library set to pull from a smb share on another computer. The filesystem on the other computer is NTFS and it runs Windows XP. The computer hosting GBPVR runs Windows Server 2003 SP1.

Code:
E:\Tagged\Placebo\Placebo - Meds>dir
Volume in drive E is MP3
Volume Serial Number is 90E6-577D

Directory of E:\Tagged\Placebo\Placebo - Meds

05/15/2007  10:13 AM    <DIR>          .
05/15/2007  10:13 AM    <DIR>          ..
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         5,726,208 Placebo - Because I Want You.mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         6,819,840 Placebo - Blind.mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         7,139,328 Placebo - Broken Promise (feat. Michael S
tipe).mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         5,693,440 Placebo - Drag.mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         7,888,896 Placebo - Follow The Cops Back Home.mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         6,578,176 Placebo - In The Cold Light Of The Mornin
g.mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         5,537,792 Placebo - Infra-Red.mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         4,972,544 Placebo - Meds (feat. VV of The Kills).mp
3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         5,677,056 Placebo - One Of A Kind.mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         7,409,664 Placebo - Pierrot The Clown.mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         5,435,392 Placebo - Post Blue.mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         6,057,984 Placebo - Song To Say Goodbye.mp3
05/15/2007  10:17 AM         6,537,216 Placebo - Space Monkey.mp3
              13 File(s)     81,473,536 bytes
               2 Dir(s)  25,125,797,888 bytes free

E:\Tagged\Placebo\Placebo - Meds>

The above are the files im trying to listen to in GB-PVR. The only files that will play are Infra-Red and Song To Say Goodbye. The others do not play and skip directly to either Infra-Red or Song to Say Goodbye depending on which one comes first. Nothing is wrong with any of the files as they will play just fine on the GBPVR machine in Media Player Classic. There are entire directories of music that GBPVR simply will not play and I do not know why. Any ideas?

Edit: Additional details I forgot to mention: GB-PVR .99.012 or something like that. No plugins except for the default ones.

Also as a sidenote, GB-PVR doesn't seem to support FLAC as it will never list them in the directory browser.

Do these .mp3 files play in Windows Media Player? I'm wondering if the system default MP3 decoder doesnt like something about the encoding of these specific files.

If it plays WMP, then it should play in GBPVR since they use the same compoents for playback.

Can you try to play one of the files, then zip and attach the gbpvr.exe-native.log?

Does the 'via a share' play any part in this? ie, if you copy one of the files locally onto the machine, does it have the same problem playing the file?

Attached is the requested log. I tried several times on various files so if thats too much let me know and I'll go try again only on one file.

Quote:2007-06-09 21:43:07.143 VERBOSE Graph contains the following filters:
2007-06-09 21:43:07.143 VERBOSE - Default DirectSound Device
2007-06-09 21:43:07.143 VERBOSE - ffdshow Audio Decoder
2007-06-09 21:43:07.143 VERBOSE - MPEG-I Stream Splitter
2007-06-09 21:43:07.143 VERBOSE - \\Paladine\E\Tagged\Placebo\Placebo - Meds\Placebo - Broken Promise (feat. Michael Stipe).mp3
I'm guessing its something to do with the 'ffdshow Audio Decoder' that seems to be selected to decode the stream. Usually it'd use a built in Microsoft MP3 decoder (licensed from frauhofer or something like that). Can you try temporarily configuring ffdshow to disable it, then try again and see how you get on? Also double check in the gbpvr.exe-native.log that it's not using this ffdshow decoder.

Disabled FFDSHOW and checked the log file again. The decoder now says "MPEG Layer-3 Decoder" and does not mention FFDSHOW. Nothing changed.
