Hey All,

I have a basic email plugin writen for getting pop3 mail. Its very basic at the minute but I want to write it in a way so that people can simply get their email, read the contents and view images. Other attachments could be viewed dependent upon other plugins available.

I'm thinking of showing who its from and the subject line. The body of the message will be shown and the user will have the option of viewing image attachments if they exist.

Once I get it that far I'll send out a pointer to dll and src code.

Cheers,
Colin.

Sounds like a good idea. I'm sure a few people would find it useful.

I think with pop email servers you can download the emails but still leave the email on the server? This would be approach or option, as its still nice to boot up you main PC and recieve the email through Outlook or your normal email client.

Yeah, at the minute I leave everything on the server. I just need to figure out buttons and stuff - not good with design [Image: biggrin.gif]

Hey All,

the status of this is:

o can connect to pop3 server which is configued via the configuration app (username, password, mail server)

o will display a from list with the corresponding subject line. You can move down the from list one message at a time.

o you can switch from "from list" to "subject list" to "emai contents" window

o the email contents window show the message 12, lines at a time and tries to wrap lines which are greater than 80 chars.

o you can scroll down one line at a time in email content.

Todo:

1. to be able to jump down x mails at a time, similarly in the email content jump down x lines at a time.

@Sub: suggestions on how to do this? eg. press "1" "0" "down arrow" and jump down 10 messages?

2. render an html mail rather than display the html source. I'm looking for example sources for this.

3. display image attachments. Any methods i can call in the picture plugin for picture viewing?

4. sort out the graphics - hey i'm a kernel engineer, not an artist [Image: tounge.gif]

If anyone wants to try this out, i'll put up the current version (0.1). It would be interesting for someone to try this on a 350, etc. to see what its like on a tv.

Hey all,

i have put the first revision of the email plugin - Email Plugin.

If anyone wants to give it a go and let me know if it works for you or not.

Only the arrow keys work, mouse clicks are disabled. Up/Down moves up and down the from mail, left/right moves to the different windows. Up/Down allow you to scroll through your mail.

Escape returns you to the GBPVR main menu. Configure through the configuration app. Only pop3 servers accessible through port 110 are supported.

Please report bugs/issues/etc (which there should be plenty ofSmile in this thread,

thanks,
Colin.

Ok, I'm digging this badboy out of a dark corner on my computer and am going to make more of an effort to get this working.

As the code is hard to read after 2 months, its an indication as to its needs to be written betterSmile Plus it needs to be threaded or it will choke the crap out of an MVP box.

Anyway, I hope to get to get something out the door in the next couple of weeks (it will be basic).

Sub, seeing as you are planning on doing some work on the comic's plugin to handle larger cartoons (ie. Sunday's Dilbert - for everyone your daily homework is to read Dilbert everyday), any chance this interface can be made publis as I would happily use this to show image attachments, thereby saving me from having to do this [Image: cool.gif] Just a thought, may as well try this code reuse thing!

Cheers,
Colin.

Hey All,

i'll hopefully be putting up a pointer to an pre-alpha version of the email client tonight. I managed to get this working with the MVP box, though due to my inability to do graphic design its pretty #### hard to read on a 21" TV.

Anyway, i'm looking for some volunteers to try it out and let me know what happens both with using it on the PC and MVP.

Also looking for suggestions for layout, etc to make it more readable/usable and any other -able word you can think of.

Its still single threaded at the minute and performance is crap, does very little but apart from all that its fantastic [Image: tounge.gif]

Cheers,
Colin.

I'd like to test it if you need someone to tell you what it looks like on an old 29" Sony through the tv-out on a nVida card [Image: smile.gif]
