Here in general discussion, I wanted to ask a few questions in preparation for moving to Australia.

I'm planning on stripping my computers and bring everything but the case and power supply. My thoughts were weight would be dramatically reduced and I would also solve my electricity conversion issue. I expect new cases with Aussie power supplies would be better than using step up transformers. Thoughts?

I know it's PAL land. Will my PVR150s work OK?

Is Television piped in through Coax, or something else? Antenna?

My MediaMVP is not a PAL version with SCART. Are Aussie Televisions equipped with S-Video ports. Standard Yellow, red, White RCA ports?

Do North American Routers and switches perform well with Step up transformers.

Are step ups expensive?

Can you foresee any other GB-PVR related issues with moving from NTSC Calgary, Canada, to PAL, Australia?

And while I'm at it, can anyone suggest the best, cheapest, fastest way to move money back and forth from OZ to Can?

Thanks in advance...

electronics shops not the cheapest but will give you a start price for step down transformer
you could probably just get a new power pack for your router

No real answers, but some generally useless comments:

I think modern switching transformers in power supplies are smart enough to work out the supply voltage and just work. Double check and don't blame me for any fire! I brought a US 110V MVP and just bent the plug to feed it 240V without an issue. (but again, your fire = no blame meWink)

You MVP can be configured to output PAL. SCART is rare in Australia (it's mainly Europe) we tend to use RCA composite (yellow) and some s-video

Television is mainly aerial and coax, then dish. Cable is really only in the major cities. (remember a country the size of the USA with only 21million potential subscribers - Guess that is a lot like Canada)

I think PAL PVR150s are sold here, but yours may not work if they are NTSC? Digital is the way to go anyway.

But remember keyboards work anticlockwise in the southern hemisphere.Rolleyes

Also remember, they aren't used to hearing words like "Aboooot" as in "It's aboooot time!" They also have this thing there called the Sun. Its yellow and in the sky. Makes things rather hot.

Also, just about everything that lives in the water can kill you.

Ok, enough of the sterotyping-good natured fun,
Good luck with the move, hope you enjoy it.

Each time I've been to the far north of Queensland, I see these pristine deserted beaches, but I'm thinking 'saltwater crocodile, saltwater crocodile, ...'

I'm sure you'll have a great time zehd Smile

I'll be living right there, between the really long saltwater croc and the fat one.

Sub, you've always been so private in your life. I'll bet we could meet and I won't even know who you are... Except you probably wander aimlessly, muttering code snippets under your breath, and have a MVP remote in your pocket, just in case...

Trust me, I'm pretty normal. I like to think I dont come across as too much of a geek.

We've just been to Queensland recently for a few days recently. Next stop is China in August to visit friends.

You know when I was in Radio and TV school, we discovered that Albertans have a worldly renowned Neutral accent and pronunciation of the English Language. It's that neutrality that make us hot hires for TV anchor jobs.

When my Aussie girlfriend says that my accent is so cute... I always reply, "Wot accent ahhh you talkin' abooot, mite?"

This is me with my girls at the beach in Surfers Paradise. There is big pockets in those shorts - big enough for an MVP.
