Hiya all,

Is it possible to run two channel changers (say, USBUIRT) with two tuner cards and two set-top boxes?

If so, how does one associate a particular USB channel changer to a particular tuner?

Cheers,

I'm not quite sure what would happen with two USB-UIRT devices. I have two channel changers but one is a USB-UIRT, the other is an Actisys IR200L.

If you're serious about wanting this, I can ask Jon Rhees about how you can address specific USB-UIRTs.

Thanks Sub,

Yep - I'm dead serious. Otherwise I need to sell one USBUIRT and buy an IR200L. Good to know I still have that option!

I've sent a question of to Jon, but in the mean time I've done a little research.

It seems all USB-UIRT manufactured after Feb 04 are capable of transmitting to three zones. Zone1 is the transmitted from the front of the USB-UIRT. Zone2 and Zone3 are available from the small stereo jack on the back.

To make GB-PVR transmit to a specific zone, you'd need to 'learn' a device and save it to a unique file. Edit the file and change each of the 'learned key' line to include a Z1/Z2/Z3 command. Below is an example of a file modified to use Zone2 (Z2).

I wondered what that socket was for - brilliant!

Where did you find that info? I tried the link from usbuirt.com to the forums but that seems broken.

What kind of IR device can plug in there? If it's just an IR LED and a resistor I'm in business.

Thanks for the tip!

I found references to it on the sagetv and beyondtv forums.

Yes, it is a simple resistor/LED thing.

Multiple USB-UIRTs also looks possible. I'll supply more info when I have it.

Cool - I managed to get onto the USBUIRT forum and found this:
http://166.70.183.44/phpbb2....emitter

The external emitters already have a current limiting resistor built in so all is required is a stereo mini-din plug, some wire and an IRLED or two. Therefore null problemo to run up to 3 independant emitters, and the two external emitters can be tiny and unobtrusive.

I'm in a happy place right now!

Hope I'm right, I was under the assumtion that I could control 2 set-top boxes with 1 USB UIRT. Am I correct? I may not understand what you are asking.

Yes, you can always control 2 or more set-top boxes with 1 USB-UIRT. But it does get difficult if you need to control more than one identical set-top. You cant put the single USB-UIRT in front of both boxes, because they'll both change channels. This is where this multi-zone stuff comes in handy...
