I was recording something on my server when my PC rebooted for some reason and am left with two files, one of which (-2) is still recording as I type.

Do these
(i) auto-concatenate after completion of the recording OR
(ii) do they just play back concurrently OR
(iii) do I need to join them manually?

The Nine_20070801_21352230.mpg
The Nine_20070801_21352230-2.mpg

If (i) great, if not then can I wishlist this?

[EDIT]Ooops I see from here it's been asked before. Same answer?

Any takers for this these days? Still need it occasionally.

NPVR handles it better these days only in the fact that it tells you if the service was restarted during a recording, so at least you know there's an orphan recording file sitting on the drive somewhere... you still have to go look for it and play it manually.

I doubt automatically joining them would be very feasible, you may end up with an unplayable file. Instead it would be nice if NPVR would import the orphaned file into the database, and perhaps append "Part 1" to the title or something along those lines. Then end-users (wife and kids) could handle the situation without involving the IT Department (Daddy).

Yup, I'm IT Daddy too. My 7 + 8 year olds are not far off working out how to import it, but it's a wee bit of a slog.

I was going to add this to imageGrabLite, but I figured this should only happen when you restart or reboot while recording which only "Daddy" should be doing anyway and he/she should know better. Is there another way this can happen?

Daddy should know better, but Daddy's PC is the server as well, and to keep things ticking over on this old Vista Box a daily restart is in order. Occasionally I do it while installing software without thinking. More fool me (but I'd still like it...:-) )

You're right Martin whoever is responsible for restarts/reboots of the NextPVR box "should" know better but I had a problem with my machine where it would randomly reboot perhaps once a week, every other week, once a month. It took me a very long time to track it down to some bad RAM (now replaced and it hasn't happened since).

As johnsonx42 suggests, I don't think stitching the different parts together would be practical due to the time-stamps but it would be useful if the original and following parts could be listed in What's New / Recordings and so on.

When my machine had crashed, if it was a recording for my wife, I'd have to warn her she'd need to go to the Videos plugin (which also points to the Recordings folder on our npvr box) and then manually watch each part.

Well yes, one way or another, restarting the recording service while recording is the only way to produce an orphan recording file and a -0 continuation file. So in a perfect world it would never happen. I don't live there.
