Hi Group,

As a Mythtv user (mythdora V3.2) I wonder what features this system has or lacks, maybe some of the users here could help with their likes and dislikes.
The opinions of those with previous working Myth setups would be appreciated.

I would also be interested if this (gbpvr) could be used to access my recordings and livetv, etc from my mythtv setup.

Many thanks

It wouldnt be able to view livetv from your mythtv backend, and would only be able to watch your recordings if they shared on a samba share.

I suspect a number of people here are as a result of being unable to get Myth working (I'm one).

Same here. Spend days on trying to get MythTV working. Then gave gbpvr a try, and five minutes later it was up-and-running. Never had a look at MythTV again.

I'm the same, but mythtv did have it's uses.

1 it exposed me to the the world of PVRs
2 if you went the knoppmythtv route, was "fairly" easy to set up and get going
3 had pretty good software based card support, so that means I found a use for the tv card i had in my pc for about 3 years and then see 1 above.
4 Re-iterated that I prefer windows over linux once I started want to change the default options.

GBPVR is not open source. I see this as an advantage.

There are no 3 month arguments here about the support of a specific card or the color of a menu component.

Sub is very clear about what he will and will not do with the program and does a great job providing support for reccomended hardware.

Like many others here, after a couple of weeks of simultaneously trying to learn Linux and setup Myth TV, someone on the Myth board was nice enough to point me to GBPVR (instead of the often heard RTFM).

30 minutes after downloading the GBPVR installer I was watching and recording tv on my PC.

The next day I had my remote working and my tv connected to the PC - Done!

I have used GBPVR everyday since.

Also a former MythTV user.

GBPVR was just so, soo much easier to get up and running, and being Windows-based, you don't have to worry about driver support for your hardware like you do in Linux. The support and sense of community here is incredible, and subs efforts to assist and answer questions (over and over, for newbs and the technical alike) has convinced me that he cannot be the one person he claims. I believe he's really just the single-persona front of a group of technically elite, enlightened and harmonious monks in Southeast Asia that develop gbpvr for the greater good of PVR geeks world-wide.

Yeah, I don't know what we are going to do when they decide their work here is done and leave us to tackle the world hunger issue Big Grin
