This weekend I upgraded from 99.5 to 1.016 and it went well. After reading the docs and installing hte various components I had no problems with the initial upgrade.

Now I tried installing the Community Skin! I installed the CommunitySkin_Setup and SkinPlugin_Setup as described on the Community Skin page. Now I cannot start GBPVR OR the Config without receiving an error in Microsoft .NET Framework, Unhandled Exception, "Object reference not set to and instance of an object". If I continue at this point the Config does run but the Community Skin does not show up in the Current Skin list.

Also, the DOCS are very confusing as to the application for the Community Skin. It SEEMS to say that there are two versions, one for the new interface PVRX2 and a different one for the old interface GBPVR. If I start GBPVR nothing works without the unhandled exception error so I assume the docs are merely confusing and the community skin only works with PVRX2. If I start PVRX2 the system runs OK but the Sommunity skin does not get applied.

Attached is the detail from the error display.

I just did a complete remove/reinstall from an empty directory and now the CONFIG will not start! I get on eof those helpful Microsoft messages : GB-PVR has encoountered a problem and needs to close ...". The Event signature in the error repor to Microsoft is:
EventType: clr20r3 P1: config.exe P2: 1.0.2782.16261 P3: 25
P$: mscorlib P5: 2.0.0.0 P6: 433ab80 P7: 1a87 P8: 10
P9: system.io.filenotfoundexception.

And now I am dead in the water. I have removed and reinstalled several times and the result is the same. I have even tried going back to an earlier version 99.5 and the same error occurs with that version.

Any ideas

Sorry, I didn't see it as a skin problem but more related to the core --- perhaps triggered by the skin installation but when not even the config will run that struck me as a core problem.

Well, in any event I managed to recover from this fiasco. Fortunately when I installed 1.0.16 I had created a backup copy of the 99.5 directory in its entirety before upgrading. So I deleted the 1.0.16 installation, renamed the saved directory, and ran a restore point from when I know 99.5 was working properly.

I still got the error starting the old GBPVR and/or Config so I reinstalled/repaired the .NET 2.0 Framework and that seem sto have resolved the problem, 99.5 ran successfully.

So, I again created a full backup of the directory and then ran the VC++ update and the 1.0.016 installation --- and everything appears back to normal, 1.0.16 is running with the basic skin and no plugins. So now I will create a manual restore point with this configuration and then TRY to again go forward on the skin installation.

The majority of your original post is very Community Skin specific, so this definitely seemed the most appropriate place to me. Without the logs its hard to tell you more about why installing this skin would generate a "Object reference not set..." error.

I haven't worked up the courage to try the skin again yet --- It took a lot of work to get back to an operating system and I'm not ready to risk it again yet :-)

I think I am going to re-read everything on the skin before I try it again. Are there any "tips" other than just donwload it and install it? The last time I did that it didn't seem to do anything, the community skin never showed up in the list of skin in configurator. Interestingly when that happened, there were no decoders listed, no capture cards, nothing. Immediately after that the error showed up and nothing ran after that until I repaired .NET 2.0

That is correct. I have edited the wiki page to hopefully make it more clear. Check to make sure you are using the correct version.

The skin installer does nothing to gbpvr other than to tell it that it is the default skin (if you allow it when prompted). It should not cause any other problems (I haven't had any other reports of this).

Well, I bit the bullet and installed the community skin. It worked fine and now my PVRX2 is running with the new skin.

I see from the docs that most of the plugins are supported in this skin. But I don't see any Plugins in the configorator. I'll take this up on the Plugin Support section I guess.
