With the latest relase of GBPVR I have decided to undertake a format of my harddrive and a complete reinstall of everything. I am currently having stturing problems on playback.

For the last 2 years or so I have always used Purvideo decoder (1.02.196) as the picture quality has always been excellent. However lately I have been experiencing stuttering which for the live of me I cannot resolve. As the Nvidia decoder has a reputation for being a little difficult to set up I am thinking of spalshing out on a new decoder . Has anyone got any suggestions?.

I would prefer it to offer hardware decoding and ideally not bundled with a 80meg download plus dvd palyer application that I will never use.

I have had good results with the Dscaler 5 codec, and it's free.

I think others around here may also use teh MPV decoder - but I prefer the look of Dscaler on my setup. (MPV is also free)

Dscaler uses the VMR acceleration etc. Google for it.

Thanks

Bathman, I have a similar problem. I used to use Intervideo for CC but would use Nvidia at times for a better picture and since 1.0.xx because I have been using srt subs instead. A few months ago I began to see stuttering when GBPVR is recording and I play back a recorded show on the PC while the MVP is playing something. I am hoping I can find a codec or software solution to my problem and I may try what works for you. Let me know if Dscaler or MPV fixes your problem.

MPV

Very disappointing. More jerky than Purevideo and the picture quality is not as good.

Dscaler

Looks promising. All my problems with jerkyness have gone. As for the picture quality well its not quite as good as Purevideo but pretty close and certainly very usable. Unfortunately it does not use the MPEG2 decoding on the graphics card. However when watching TV my Pentium M is not clocking out of 600mhz which is its lowest setting.

Overall I am very impressed and will try it over the next few weeks. And lets face its free.

i am in the same situation
it seems purevideo and vmrcustom dont gio together well
i have been blamming my 6200le but i see you have 7300
my question is how good does the card need to be
will it fix the problem
i mean its just bloody mpeg playback not some super duper game that needs 200frames a second
something is seriously wrong you cant tell me that these cards are not upto it

what audio decoder are you using with dscaler
i will give it a try tonight

Are you talking about the DVXA hardware assisted decoding? Or are there more features on the Nvidia board?

I know in the dscaler video properties you can set the idct mode (which is DVXA - correct?)

Cheers

its nots a cpu issue as i can record 4 programs while watching with 30%-40% cpu usage

Ok, similar specs as mine. I have some tearing at times apart from the stutter. I am the same way as far as once I notice something annoying it stands out all the time after that. I just have such limited time and money now to work on the trouble daily, etc.

"i have been blamming my 6200le but i see you have 7300"

My signature may well say 7300le and I do use that in one of my systems. In my other system (my main one) I use a 6200. This actually gives me slightly better TV quality.

I dont think you need a top quality card to play back I used a ATI Radeon 7000 for a couple of years in a VIA C3 1.2 ghz socket A motherboard and to be honest it worked like a charm. In fact of all the PC I have ever used that one was bar far the most relible with GBPVR I have ever used. I ran for months without a reboot. Oh why did I ever tinker with it - as I know have much more poke and it stutters!
